    Bullet lube for .44 mag

Hello all, brand new member here, first post. I have been casting bullets for my muzzleloader for quite a while out of pure lead. I typically use the 370 grain maxi-ball lube with 50/50 beeswax and olive oil or something close to that pretty basic lube. It works fine for the muzzleloader. Anyway, I have recently cast some 260 grain .430 "Keith Type" SWC bullets for the .44 mag and some .459 405 grain flat nose for the .45-70. I cast them from about 100 lbs of wheel weight that I melted over a couple of days and cast into ingots. We will referr to this as "mystery alloy" Would the same lube that I use on the maxi-ball be appropriate for use in the .44 mag and .45-70 cast out of mystery alloy? If not, any recommendations on something that I could use that I could make at home? I have a never-ending supply of beewax.

    Making Ben's Red

    This is the basic mix:
    50% beeswax
30% Red, Tacky Lucas High Temp Grease
    10% Johnson's Paste Wax
5% Dexron II or Dexron III Trans. Fluid
    5% STP Oil Treatment

But a forum member was nice enough to describe that in other units, and using a complete Red Tacky Lucas Grease:
    24 ozs. = 3 cups - melted beeswax
    14 ozs. = 1 3/4 cups - Red N Tacky , heat it..it doesn't really melt
    4.6 ozs. = 2/3 cup - Johnsons Paste Wax - melted
2.3 ozs. = 1/3 cup - Dexron II or III ATF
2.3 ozs. = 1/3 cup- STP Oil Treatment

This is the best lube I've found so far.

Alright thanks. I'm definitely going to try that for my .44/.45-70 rounds and probably in my M/L too. That looks like a great lube!

    Welcome !

I settled on White Label BAC lube for all of my handgun rounds but I'd be willing to bet that NRA 50/50 would work as well.
Your beeswax/olive oil blend may work and there's no real harm in trying.

Felix lube has been the best. Ben's is too slippery. Better for a rifle. Alox sucks in any form.
    LBT soft Blue is OK.
I have done more lube tests then anyone. You can go from 10" to 1" with a lube.

I'm going to go with what 44man said. Felix lube is top notch, A Number One, Best lube I have ever used. Period. I am on the last loaf of the BIG BATCH that Felix and I did years ago - gallons of it in the MOAS. I am going to have to make more soon.

I'm also on my second batch of Ben's Red. Just because. It's good, but not as good as FWFL. I have only done pistol boolits with it, and it works. Not any harder or easier to make the FWFL. If Ben's Red was all I'd ever have again, I'd be okay.

I've also dip loobed with 45/45/10. Pissola boolits work okay if not pushed too hard.

Year ago I used a lot of 50/50, Alox, and other stuff.

I've also used Orange Magic and been satisfied with it. Still have a loobsizer with heater set up for it and still use it some.

Tumbling is straight Lee Liquid Alox never worked for me.
It ain't rocket science, it's boolit science.

The more I use it the more I'm convinced that 357 Maximum's 666+1 lube is the one to beat.

    6 oz paraffin
    6 oz Vaseline
    6 oz beeswax
    1 oz Ivory soap

It has good handling qualities, isn't too slick, burns clean and is easy to make.
