    Marlin 336 year of mfg

I have a Marlin 336 in 30-30 serial # 05062xxx and I would like to know the year it was made. When I access the site for that information it says they can find no match for those numbers. I would appreciate it someone would find the year it was made for me.

I only know of the older model year of mfg which is 100 minus the first two numbers, So 1995 I believe. Don't hold me to it but the newer YOM would be 2005 I think.

1995. If it was 2005 it would be 95062xxx. 100-05=95. 100-95=05. I believe they went to this system in the mid 70s because hardware stores were complaining nobody was buying previous model year guns... So Marlin in all their wisdom tricked us, and it is still stumping us to this day... Or at least that's how legend has it.

1995 is the winner. I have a 1894FG that starts 97XXXX and it was made in 2003.

    So my 1895 #9401xxxx was mf'd in 2006...
And my 336 #1601xxxx was mf'd in 1984. Is that correct?

Seems crazy because I bought the 336 brand new for my Dad's 65th birthday in 1990. Hard to imagine it sat in the case for 6 years before someone bought it...

That is the way the numbering system works except for the Remlins and some lever actions that were made for only a few years in 30 carbine, 256 win mag and .22. Stranger things have happened than guns sitting unsold for years. Sometimes they were forgotten in the back of the store room.

The Marlin Firearms forum has all this info if you wish to research it more.

crazy mark, I thank you for clarifying that. I tried the Marlin forum and gave up because it kept telling me they could find no such number. I was also getting lots of popups.
