    Plinking load for BA .30-30?

I want to load the NOE 129 grain SPITZER Sks/AK GC for plinking with my 30-30 bolt action (1000 To 1300 fps). The boolit gas checked and lubed weighs 139.5 grains.

I have RedDot, Promo, 700X and SR4759 in good supply. Also available is 800X,Hp-38/231 and small amounts of Unique, and 2400.

I have looked in my various manuals, including 3 Lymans and the only powder I find (that I have plenty of) is SR4759.

Has anyone loaded 30-30 with 140+/- grain boolits using any of my “good supply” powders?

I would surely appreciate some help finding a starting load.

    Thanks!

I think you might look at some of the fast to medium rifle powders like 4198, RL7, 3031, 748 ect. There is a jillion of them. You can use j word data. I once loaded 130 gr Hornady spire points for a Stevens 325 bolt action. They proved too long for the magazine. They would not feed through a Win 94 or a Marliv 336. I shot them up in my NEF Handirifle.

Found some data in the old Lyman 3rd Edition for a 151gr boolit so will be ok to use with your lighter boolit.
    Unique 7.5grs= 1,333 fps, to 11grs.= 1691fps.
SR4759, 14.4grs= 1,529fps, you should be able to reduce this by a couple of grains with no problems. 18grs.= 1,887 fps.
    Red Dot, 6.8grs= 1,257 fps, 9grs= 1,481 fps.
    700X, 6.5grs = 1,235 fps, 8 grs= 1,401 fps.

I have had excellent results with the fast powders in the 30-30. Sometimes sizing to different diameters will affect the accuracy. I usually size to .309" or .310".

Thanks! I will have to start sized at .311" and to get there I'll probably have to come down in steps. The boolits are sized .314" and gas checked. The lube is Lars Car Red.

They were for my 7.62x39 Mini Mauser.

"700X, 6.5grs = 1,235 fps, 8 grs= 1,401 fps." This load is one I have been using in .223 with the Ranch Dog 55 grain boolit (6 & 6.5) both with and without Dacron filler.
    Thanks again!
