    Portable Shooting Bench: Receiver Hitch

Project in the making but nearly finished. This is a portable shooting bench that hooks into a receiver hitch and it also has the capability to fold up while attached so a person doesn't have to take it off the receiver to travel. There are adjustments for the table (up and down and can swivel but locks down with set screws), the seat (forward, back and swivels) and then the entire frame can also go up and down for leveling or height differences. Solid as a rock, just need to do some finishing touches then things still need to be painted/varnished.

    Here are some pics:

Well I am sealing that plan for sure and make one my self.
Does the table twist very much?

No twist. I use a tubing bender and used 3\4 in tubing bending it like the table only about 2 1/2 in smaller with about a 10x10 in plate in the center welded to the tubing.

I like it. Not to take away from what you have done because that is well thought out and looks like top quality work. Awesome. What would really be neat though is the table section which you already have a joint there where the horizontal white tube and black tube come together, make a short piece to go into the table and into your receiver. Raise the table up, which you already have the capability to do. Then build some kind of seat to set in the back of your pickup truck then you have gained a couple feet in elevation. No Prairie Dawgie would be safe. Great job like I said I like it. jroc

Do you mean "twist" as in does the table top turn or swivel? or are you talking about the stability?

You mean as another option without the current frame (a two for one): as in take the table top out of frame and build another extension that comes straight up from the receiver so a person can sit in the back of the pickup while prairie doggin. That does sound like another possibility if a person wanted to be mobile while shooting.

Yes, looks like you have a few bolts to hold things tight.

Very nice. I did the same thing for launching clay birds. Handy as can be.

Thanks for the pickup idea. I will just use the table top making a piece that hooks up in the receiver hitch to bring it back into the pickup box. Great idea. My son was giving me some ideas on how to build it. If you notice on the white receiver hitch there is a clamp that I made It keeps hitch sold so it does not wiggle. Thanks for all the nice comments and ideas. Tom

I like it. We will need more pics at the range. I like the simplicity of the design.

Yes I do but 50 mph winds here in Nebraska panhandle might even blow the table away hooked up to the jeep. LOL

Don't take this the wrong way but she starting to think that most men are idiots. But I do have a old 1975 f150 rust bucket 4x4 300 six cylinder and 4 speed transmission. Yes, still runs. She says that is good enough for me. We will be married 39 years in April. With that said who is the idiot in this house. LOL
