    Loads for .308 ? ?

So I have been loading for the 30-06 with great success
Using NOE 202gr. and Lee 185gr. and getting Sub MOA.
Would these Boolits be a good choice for the .308

Also any pet loads you would like to share would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for Accuracy out to 300yds. for cast matches nocking down steel.

SR 4759 is my normal powder in 308 for 180 & 200 gr bullets up to about 2000 fps. 18.0 to 20.0 gr works well. The 200 gr bullet groups opened up at 150 meters with 21.0 gr.

To answer your question, would those bullets be a good choice? Sure, should work well.

you didn't say what twist 308 barrel its gonna be used in, unless its a 1-10 twist, they are probably too heavy to stabilize. with my 1-12, I can use up to 178g and with my 1-10, I can use up to 208g

Been using 18.0 for the 30-06, but would like to switch to a powder that fills the case more.
However I do not want to use a filler.

It can be done, but without filler and with your desired powders, your groups will most likely suffer.

This remark isn't targeted at anyone in particular.

But......When people go to their keyboards and say " Well, you should use &$%*#@ powder with so many grains with a certain bullet ". Please don't accept my comments or anyone else's comments and go and throw that combination and put it in your firearm ( without doing your " home work " first ) .

Please double and triple check the load data with reputable sources.
I've seen many times here on this forum, load data offered that is dangerous and could not be validated when checked against a reliable load data manual (s) . When questioned , people said..." Oh, I guess I wrote down the wrong powder, or I guess I typed in the wrong charge weight. "

This is a wonderful sport, let's all be especially careful with what we read and use and what we might suggest to someone else to use.

Merry Christmas to all of you,

    Ben

I too am looking to select a mold specifically for my .308. I have the Lyman 31141, but wonder if there is a better choice for a hunting bullet that will keep its gas check in the neck of a .308 that is factory throated for J-word bullets? I will be very grateful for your mold suggestions. I'm OK on powder choices, thanks. -Ed

    Hey Ben, Good advice.
I never blindly accept anyone's advice without doing my homework and making sure it is safe.
But seeing what works for others gives me a good starting point.
Kinda like your lube recipe, I looked at all the home brews, took everything into account and
tried yours with just a slight tweak and I will never use anything else

Ben's comments are fine and applicable.... AS LONG AS THERE IS RELIABLE DATA AVAILABLE.

It was the LACK of cast-bullet data that led me to start te the 13-page thread about cast bullets in the M1A... which just happens to be a .308. My intent was to create a body of practical data for use in gas-operated rifles, and the effort seems to have succeeded very well. Many members have told me that the data is working well in their rifles without problems.... particularly, without SAFETY problems.

With great caution... and considerable experience.... it is possible to strike out on our own, but DO NOT try it willy-nilly!

    Understatement of the week there.

It's one of the better threads on this forum IMHO.

I really like the 5744 powder for 308 and reduced loads. My 26" 1-10 twist 308 will put them into less than an inch at 100yds with a 200 gr LEE bullet and a 200 gr RCBS bullet. I use 21 grs and it runs 1850fps in my rifle. This is a relly low load according to Lymans book on lead bullets.
