    Newbe lube cook seeking advice.

I feel the need to start making some home made lube.
Some of the more exotic ingredients I have read wouldn’t be available to me here in NZ I fear, but we do have Beeswax, all sorts of motor grease and oil…

Would be interested to hear anyones opinion on what works well.
Its for pistol, all rounder, from .38sp to .44mag. Mainly for warm (sometimes hot) weather shooting.
Looking for something that will be consistent, kind to the bore, smell nice, low smoke and will make me shoot better!!!

Its not that I havent looked at the various threads here, but I think I have information overload.

Look up speed green. It or a reasonable copy can be made from your beeswax and either bullplate sprue lube or 2 cycle mixing oil. Add a touch of carnauba for your hotter climate. The recipe is here on castboolits somewhere. Easy to make.

    1 lb bees wax
    1 lb lard
    8oz STP engine treatment

melt the wax, then the lard, stir until emulsified, then add the STP

Good to 1750fps with plain based boolits, faster than those pistol rounds will ever go

Felix lube is perfect for your needs. Easy to make and I'm sure you can get castor oil, mineral oil, Ivory soap (or similar), and lanolin.
You will learn far more at the casting, loading, and shooting bench than you ever will at a computer bench.

This works for me, dead simple to make. BW & 2stroke are available everywhere.

+1 for Felix lube! Everything you need for it is at the local drug store except the beeswax. I use it in 380 & 9mm.

I'm a Ben's Red kind of guy but it isn't as warm up here on the Canadian border as I suspect it is down there.

My advice, try "Very small" batch's of 2 or 3 lubes to see which works better in your conditions.

I've had my best luck thus far with Lube's with a fair amount of Dextron III (Automatic Transmission fluid) and smaller amounts of beeswax.
