I couldn't believe it was mislabeled and seller didn't know what it was. I'll do up some and make it available. There is one going around but it seems to be moving slow.

OK, I know this is a big time stupid question, but what would you use a lead hammer for that you couldn't use a regular hammer for?

    Hi Jleneave,

You would use a lead hammer to drive on something you did not want to mar. The lead carries a pretty good whamp, but is soft so it won't dent or mar a piece the way a hard lick from a steel hammer would.

    Regards,

    Gandolf

Lead hammers are dead blow hammers. They do NOT tend to bounce and as said they won't mar a steel surface that may be machined.

Well as long as you use plain lead , WW's might be a little too hard but would work .

With the price I paid I can afford to lend it out. In doing this, these molds seem to wander and disappear (hopefully not) and the loss won't be that bad should it wander. Many here have made attempts to make their own and some are quite good. I even tried to drill out a 2x4 with a 1" drill and it worked. Crude but usable. Each one a bit larger and soon the handle doesn't fit cuz it burns out. Do a search for lead hammer mold on ebay to get an idea of the going cost. Midway has them occasionally. Expect to pay $50 and up.

Great find! What weight hammer does it make? I'd sure like to take a turn at using it if you are taking names here. Let me know,

sort of unrelated, but my dad gave me an old lead hammer after a garage clean-out and it made me about 100 keith 44's

Me too. I would like to try and cast a couple hammers and give one to my dad for a present. I have a lot of the stick on weights that I have been sitting aside to cast bass fishing jigs out of. Would these make for a good lead hammer? Thanks.

I've been waiting over a year on the last one to make the rounds.
Would appreciate a turn with it too.

    Thank you,
