    Loading .350" RB as buckshot

Was bored yesterday and was looking at this big bag of cast .350 dia Round Balls I had casted for one of my muzzleoaders and thought why not. 6 of them plus the wad weighed right at 1 oz. And I thought weight is weight 1oz of shot or 1oz of RB's are the same weight. So loaded up several with this load: Cheddite Hulls & primer, Claybuster 12S0 wad and 19.0gr of Red Dot. The RB stacked 2 to a layer and 6 point star crimp came out perfect.

At 25 yards these threw a approx. 12" pattern with all balls on paper. Interestingly these would display two distinct groups on paper 3 balls would cluster together and about 10 inches from them the other 3 balls would cluster. One group about 6 inches higher than the other. These were shot from a Moss. 500 w/18" cyl. bore.....

lot of punch in those big pellets. I loaded up six pellet .375 balls pretty hot last year and got good results.

I have a bunch of .350" balls for my Pennsylvania rifle . I might see how they do in one of the 10 gauge guns after the range is reopened !

Shoot I was thinking these were larger then 000 Buck and they aren't

I did 000 last year in one of the 10 gauge doubles with very satisfying results . I can get 8 of them to fit rather well inside a Remington SP-10 wad . And a couple weeks ago I tried the same thing with 5 scoops of buffer from a 32 ACP case . The buffered load tightened up a bit in my circa 1890 LC Smith Quality 2 10 gauge .

    How true!

For example: Looking back at my notes, the pellets loaded in Federal Premium 12 gauge 000B averaged .346" in diameter.
