Boolit Lubes

I'm a novice caster I could use some advice on which lubes to start out with. I'm interested in the White Label lubes primarily. I'm not interested in making my own.

I'm loading for 45 Colt and 30-30 Win. The 45 will most often be loaded between 900-1200 fps but I might experiment with loads exceeding that range. I expect loads for the 30-30 Win. to be less than 2400 fps at most.

Which lubes would you advise?

You won't go wrong with White Label Lubes.

50-50, 2500 or BAC will do nicely.

2500 is a bit stiffer if you are driving the bullets over 2,000fps.

BAC has Carnauba wax in it but doesn't need heat.

Take your pick they all cost the same I think.

Canauba red needs heat but has a little less smoke, and is theoretically at least a bit on the stiff side for low velocity handgun loads.

I have been using BAC on everything from 9mm to 30-30 but I havent exceeded 1650 fps yet in the rifles.

I have been using Lars' 50/50 for my pistol reloads and his black powder lube in my 50/90 SHILOH SHARPS. At worst, it's as good as the stuff that costs twice as much. No real evidence, but I think it's a little better. Like the old guy said, "I ain't much of a rifle shot."

HOW FAST do you plan on going with a 30/30 and a gas checked cast boolit?

I run Lar's Red. Needs heat. Sticky as a mother. Only drawback.

Ain't as sticky as you might imagine from some of the recent threads. I mix my C-Red 6 to 1 with bullplate lube b (by weight) to avoid having to use heat in my lubber sizer. You should be tempted to say "Now that's sticky", but though I noticed it, it weren't that bad even then. Makes a great cold weather lube too!

Just starting out I would say get some Lars Red. Then make you some Felix lube and Next thing you know, you'll have too much lube! Even Lee Liquid Alox is good for starting out. It works great but just smokes alot & is messy.

I've never heard of a lube as good as Lar's Red but I (and my customers) hate the stickiness. I'm looking for a less sticky lube but haven't found any as low smoke as Lar's Red.
