    Finished the Cadet

Three years back Euan gave me a .310 Cadet with a brand new barrel on, no foreend and a butt stock held together by the wood work holding hands. It shoots like a dream so I finally got round to restocking it. I did the foreend a few months back and just finished the butt stock. The wood work is profile correct but a bit bigger through the girth than the original woods. I like a bit of meat. Oh, and the butt pad ain't that orignial either but I like it and originals are a bit thin on the ground.

The original butt stock I have filled and will lop it short to fit the girls so they too can enjoy the Cadet.

Looks really really nice, the figure in the butt work is lovely. Will it get a crack at the giant hares you have over there?

    Muy sweet!
We need somebody/something to keep the government (cops and bureaucrats too) HONEST (by non government oversight).

Every "freedom" (latitude) given to government is a loophole in the rule of law. Every loophole in the rule of law is another hole in our freedom. When they even obey the law that is. Too often government seems to feel itself above the law.

We forgot to take out the trash in 2012, but 2016 was a charm! YESSS!

    .

Beautiful work, Jeff - that buttstock "pops" !

I have a very nice piece of claro walnut in my cellar, that'll make a nice buttstock ( it's the butt part of custom boltgun stock blank that was cut in half @ the magazine well).

My only trepidation is drilling that loooong stock bolt hole ( I have no lathe, etc)- AND, drilling it @ the correct angle - so, I haven't used it as yet.

I really like that. I have always had a soft spot for those actions.

Looking good Jeff and a very creditable rescue job. There really is something about the Martini action that just plain says "rifleman" when you see them and having them in hand only reinforces that.

Nice job, not easy to get it looking that good.

What kind of wood is that? I suspect that NZ has some stuff
that I have never seen or heard of.

Oh, I've been shooting it for yonks. It groups around an 1 inch at 50m when I do my bit.

Claimed a big hare a while back:

This is the best it's done at 50m:

Nice rifle, I've always liked Martinis. You did a fine job restocking it, you're very talented.

I think I like that Husky .30-30 or yours better, though.

Wow! Now that's a bunny rabbit! Very nice rifle; someday I'd love to have one myself.

You do not need a lathe to drill the bolt hole. I have done a couple now and am just finishing up a MH 577-450 and I dont have a lathe either. Have a look through this thread on my doing a Martini Enfield 303 to see how the hole can be done with a common drill and a length of 12mm and 20mm rod.

Very nice Jeff, makes me wish I had never let go of the one I had. It had been rechambered to 32-20.
