9mm lee 105 swc

I am casting LEE 105gn SWC and working up a load for 9mm.
Primarily through CZ-75 BD.
I am sizing and lubing using 4500.

I am questioning OAL and powder charge.

I was hoping to load using Bullseye, if not Unique.

Also does anyone have any pictures they can post of their 105 SWC after lubed and sized.

Buy some loading manuals. Published loads are available at most powder manufacturers websites.

I have Lyman Reloading book, Lyman Cast Bullet handbook, Lee Reloading handbook, also checked alliants webite and paper charge book.

Closest thing i have been able to find is the LEE 102RN which gives me a pretty good idea of powder charge but not OAL which i understand can be critical.

I would try seating to just cover the crimping groove (this is a revolver bullet). That would leave you a little shoulder above the case. The bottom portion of this bullet is about .33 inch. I use a 115 grain 9mm bullet with a similar bottom portion but a slightly longer nose. I seat that to 1.062 which leaves a bit of shoulder showing. Of course you would have a shorter OAL because of the shorter nose in your bullet. You might have to leave more shoulder out to get the bullet to feed properly.

Doing some searching I found this...

"My favorites in the 105 SWC are 5.9 grs of AA #5 and 4.2grs of Titegroup. I seat them at 1.02"
Feed flawlessly in all my 9's. Most accurate boolit. Size mine to .356"

I would not necessarily trust the load data but the OAL may be a place to start.

I used an oal of .980 for it to feed in my Kel-Tec PF-9.

Doesn't go into battery for me without a stout smack on the back of the slide.
Hangs up on the semi wadcutter forward part of the boolit.

When I was using this bullet in my 9mm I had to seat it so the front shoulder of the boolit was just barely showing above the case. Otherwise I had the same problem as Shiloh.
When seated deeper they would mostly feed but I had 1 or 2 failures to feed per magazine with the round hanging up on the bottom of the chamber at the feed ramp.
I stopped using it when I picked up the new Lee 95 rf. No problems with this one.

Okay so i ran into the problem you ran into. I can seat the bullet all the way back to where edge of swc is level with case mouth but i really dont think thats safe...
I was going to buy quickload and see but its $152 so now what....

I used Unique, but Bullseye should work just fine. Folks have been using both powders successfully with the 9mm for some time.



Your gun and barrel is going to dictate it's own OAL that both fits and feeds.

I had to seat mine shorter than that or my slide would not close. Then it was too short to feed properly. Bummer.

Those look great Bullwolf.. Nice picture. The 115 grain boolits that I have been using show about that much shoulder. They work in 5 different 9's I use. I have the Lee 105 SWC 6 banger mold still in the box. If it ever warms up around here I'm going to cast up some for my 38 specials. May try it in the 9mm's too. What if at all do you size to? What do you use to clean the lube off the noses? They look shiny.

Thank you. When using for 9mm, I size to .358 with a Lee push through sizer die.

I used to wipe the lube of boolits with mineral spirits. At some point I figured out that Johnson's Baby Oil smells much nicer than mineral spirits when indoors, and wasn't quite so harsh. Now I apply a splash of baby oil a rag, T-shirt, or a paper towel to wipe off my boolit noses.

Baby oil easily removes Alox or 45-45-10, and does a good job at gently removing tumble lube from sticky hands and fingers as well.

I got tumbling in a Keltec PF9 until I switched to WSF after starting with 231 and trying Unique, with both letting my bullets tumble. I started the load low and worked it up gradually
I load the same bullet in 380, 38spl and 357 mag as well.

Looks like I'm going to enjoy my new mold. Very versatile, lightweight (cheap) bullet. I hadn't even thought about using it in .380...

Yup, one of my favorite bullets. In my .380 and 9mm I use the barrel as a gage.
I am running a light load of bullseye. Not trying to hot rod them. I suppose I could if I wanted too.

In my CZ75 I had to get the crimp just right to get it to sit correctly without hanging up.

I have wondered about case bulging/shorter brass life from stuffing that 105 into a .380 case.
I did a few and felt as though it was a lot of bullet pretty deep in that little case. I'm interested in others experience with the combo–I'd like to use that bullet in .380 if it does no harm.

The "bulging case" comes from using a slightly larger cast bullet diameter than jacketed in order to seal the bore and prevent leading. This does no harm to the brass and as long as it will chamber and feed properly, causes no harm to your weapon. It happens all the time in most straight walled pistol cases. Ignore it and enjoy shooting.
