Nice thing about smart phones. I can walk into the gun shop, see what powder he has, get on the phone, and google it. "Ohh that powder will work for the 223, and he has 5 lbs of it, ill take 2 lbs and throw it in the fire box" Same thing with primers, even if i'm not going in for primers, i always try and get a brick, if not, then i get as many as i can. I haven't been to any gun shops since fall, so i'm over due to go to one, just waiting for the white stuff to melt off so i can go out back and shoot
Looking for: 32acp mold-- 22 hornet jwords-- 7.62x54r- jwords, boolits, mold-- 7x57 brass, mold---7.62 Nagant-brass-- 8x56r-brass, jwords-- any old firearm laying around ( I'm starting to take gun smithing classes, and I'm looking for pieces I can work on, PM me with your details)

Poor execution of a problem on your part doesn't constitute a problem on mine.

Having been through the riots and Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968, I know what a riot looks like. Naturally, I stashed enough ammo to cover that need. I do not hoard ammo or components, but since my retirement centers around reloading and shooting, I had to be sure there was enough stock to keep me busy. If I ran out, I could always take up knitting, right?

I set up a recurring purchase order with my suppliers. They have authorization to ship me alternating orders every month. Took me a year to get it all set up, but now I keep my loading/casting room storage crammed full of powder, primers, bullets.

The only real difference for me is primers. I used to buy a couple hundred at a time. Now I buy a box of 1,000. I have more powder, but only because I'm loading different things. Used to be, all I used was Unique and Bullseye. These days I have those and Power Pistol, Accurate #2, Blue Dot, IMR4198, etc.

Before loosing everything I had in my boating accident.... I had over 40,000 primers and 120lbs of different powders for 5 rifles and 4 handguns. I always thought I needed more primers! It was a tragic loss that I cannot replace, so now I sing cumbia with all pot smoking hippy friends while we smuggle Mexicans across the border and try to save the desert tortoise... I now love Obama and Democrats alike and think happy thoughts of unicorns and rainbows... *brb*.......... sorry I had to throw up there for a sec.

If you have 19# of CFE, you are woefully short of SR primers. If you are buying primers in any quantity less than 5K, then you really don't need them IMO.

I have always stocked up on supplies. Powder/primers are no different.....except that I started reloading 6 months ago so its more difficult to find the 'correct' powder. I'm still using AA9 for my 327 magnum and its leaving a lot of unburnt powder.

    burrkiss,

Welcome to the forum and to the joy of casting/reloading.

If you put the state you live in, you never know, someone might be able to help.

More. but I've always bought in bulk with my dad. We literally only had two types of powder in the house. One brand of primers and in each rifle, pistol and shotgun. Now, I've got lots of variation. basically backups backed up times three.
