Those numbers are probably close to the mark, and will obviously vary depending on the amount of crud they have on them.

Well, final numbers are in. Approx 600 pounds before sort including SOWW's.

After all the sort and smelt, final tally is ~380 pounds COWW, ~40 SOWW.

Total 420 out of 600 pounds. I guess that is as good as it is going to get.

There is a lot of loss especially with the smaller clip weights.
Big truck weights are like the bonanza of weights.
Sent from my PC with a keyboard and camera on it with internet too.
    Melting Stuff is FUN!
    Shooting stuff is even funner

you mentioned spillage while moving a full pot of liquid lead?
Can you modify your setup for better safety? Meaning not moving pot of lead.
No way I am moving my pot full of lead, even half full of lead. I ladle right out of the pot on top of the burner.
I use an old 3 gal steel pot and about a two pound ladle.

About 30% of the COWW's were truck weights. Big monsters too. But they were offset by 20% were tiny little ones. I am going to try and clean the last of the lead off the clips today, I was not super disciplined with how I skimmed the clips off, I probably have another 10 pounds of lead in the dross and clip buckets.

I modified my behavior instead of my system. It was operator error, pure and simple. The flame went out on the stove and I didn't have a long lighter to re-ignite. I purchased a long lighter and also used a pair of vise grips on the tab to help balance the pot when lifting from the handle.

I ladle right out of the pot and use the vise grips to tilt the pot to keep getting full ladles. When it gets that low, I pick it up and pour directly into the ingot molds. All good now.

I always try to leave about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of lead in the pot. Makes a new melt go faster.
