    .450 Marlin cast loads.

So,I finally snagged a mold to start casting for my best friends guide gun.
Lyman 457483 gas check 378g (theoretically)

Anyone casting for their .450 Marlin, wanna share some data? I have 2015 and rx7 which have both proven very very good in jacketed loads.

I'd like to dial this back a bit. The rifle is not the most pleasant plinker in the rack.

I would recommend the faster burning of the two powders, RL-7. Slower burning powders = more muzzle flash out of the Guide Guns, especially the ported version. From there I don't have any loads that would help you as I shoot a 490 grn BRP slug over AA5744 out of my .450 Marlin Ultra Rifle with a 22 inch barrel.

Here's an email I just received from Accurate. These guys are awesome at helping with data! I got a reply in less than Twelve hours!
I asked for some lighter loads for hunting TN deer and plinking. Full house loads are a waste here in TN and just plain abusive.

Here is the load data that you have requested.

    Caliber: .450 Marlin.
    Barrel: 24”
    Reduced loads:
    Powder: Accurate – 5744®.
    Bullet weight: 400grains.
Low load: 27.0 grains (ca 1375 Fps)
Mid range load: 33.0 grains (ca 1650 Fps)
Maximum load: 38.5 grains (ca 1925 Fps) LD ca 78 %

    Powder: Accurate – 1680®.
    Bullet weight: 400grains.
Start load: 38.3 grains (1625-1725 Fps)
Maximum load: 42.5 grains (1800-1900 Fps).

    Powder: Accurate – DP 2200.
    Bullet weight: 400 grains.
    Start load: 47.0 grains
    Maximum load: 52.0 grains (1950-2050 ft/p/sec)

    Powder: Accurate – 2015®.
    Bullet weight: 300grains.
Start load: 56.0 grains (1975-2075 Fps)
Maximum load: 62.0 grains (2300-2400 Fps) LD ca 106%.
    Bullet weight: 325grains.
Start load: 57.0 grains (1925-2050 Fps)
Maximum load: 60.0 grains (2225-2275 Fps). LD ca 110-112%
    Bullet weight: 350grains.

Maximum load: 58.0 grains (2100-2200 Fps) LD ca 110-112%.
    Bullet weight: 400grains.
Start load: 47.0 grains (1675-1775 Fps)
    Maximum load: 52.0 grains (1900-2000 Fps) .

    Powder: Accurate – 2230®.
    Bullet weight: 400grains.
Start load: 48.0 grains (1625-1725 Fps)
Maximum load: 54.0 grains (1950-2050 Fps) Full case/compressed.
    NOTES:
It’ important to note that SAFETY is our prime concern therefore we strongly recommend.
    1. ALWAYS BEGIN LOADING AT THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM “START” LOAD and develop loads in 2% increments towards the MAXIMUM load.
    2. CAUTION: Beware of double charging if the loading density is below 50% of the available volume.
    Examples:
Ø Most Handgun caliber/powder combinations as well as
Ø A-5744 with reduced loads for rifles.
    3. If possible, measure the velocity and correlate with our data.

Nice to know only I don't use their powder. Need the others Hodgden, IMR, Alliant etc.

    Dean,
I use to have a 458X2' built on a Rem 600 Mag action. Back then I used Speer 400 gr "J" bullets over 49 gr IMR4198. Very accurate at 100 yds from a bench...if you could hang on to it. Three shot groups were 1.5 to 1 inch at 100 yds. Look at IMR 4198 powder. The case capacities of the two cartridges are very close.

    I use 43g of IMR4189 under a 390g in my 1895gs 45-70.
Very accurate and not bad recoil. Runs around 1600fps
