    Bryon E. Cottrell Pa. gunsmith

A friend just acquired an interesting rifle.

    Czech. VZ24 action
    Caliber .22 Newton
Barrel is heavy sporter contour 1-10 twist
    Marked B. E. Cottrell

Mr. Cottrell was a gunsmith during the period of the 1920`s thru the 1960`s.

Looking for some bio info on him. My AR magazines from that period with his articles make no mention of his shop, etc.

Can anyone help with some info about him?

    Regards,

    Scott

Sorry no info on Mr Cottrell. I do believe that caliber should be 22 Newton(.224diameter) 256 Newton-.264 dia, 30 Newton-.308 dia etc, sir Charles used bore not groove diameter to name/designate his cartridges.

STP I can't find reference right now but seems this cartridge was designed to use the 22 hipower bullet of .228 diameter, which I think Hornady still makes, Huntingtons should have reloading dies too. A chamber cast or pound slug, couple barrel slugs and a mold of right diameter, your friend could have a very different cast boolit shooter.

The Newton WAS originally a .228 but later ??? was changed to .224.

Again the ONLY way of knowing is to slug the bbl.

Your local bait shop should have some small cone shaped sinkers and they are nice soft lead to drive down your bbl and see where you have to go next.

http://www.huntingtons.com/store/sea...=search&page=1 STP Huntingtons list 22 Newton, not cheap at 144.00, think I would send them a chamber cast and slug

Check with CH4D. I'll bet without checking Dave has them in stock and at a lower price.

Thanks for the input on the cartridge, but we are really interested in some bio info in regards to his years as a gunsmith.
