Actually, I've never loaded any ammo for the ol' gal. I've heard there was a reason for the reduced powder charge for the carbine as opposed to the rifle! I have a friend who fires his and he says the recoil is brisk; I don't know if he loads with the rifle charge or not. I would only shoot black powder loads in this gun.

that is absolutely a keeper. I can bet that full loads are a bit brisk for sure. they only weigh around 7 lbs as I understand. my #1 is this same weight and the loads that approach ruger pressure do bump a bit as well.
thankyou for showing this old girl. I cant imagine anyone having any heartburn with a photo of the original article. especially this in so apparently good shape.
Here's my "Plain Jane" Shiloh Sharps Hartford Model. Standard grade wood, steel shotgun buttstock, heavy octagon barrel, bedded forearm in 45-70 Gov. Globe front sight with Riflesmith Midrange Tang Sight. Took it out shooting today after a five year stint in the gun safe (disgraceful!)
I was really worried the bullet lube would be all dried out after five years in the closet.
They shot great, but I need practice... five shots at 100 yards.
Bullet: Paul Jones 540 gr. Creedmoor (.458/1-20 alloy/SPG)
Powder: SR-4759 23.0 grs./0.0025 paperwad/0.5 grs. Dacron filler
Primer: Federal 210
Case: Winchester
Average Velocity: 1216.96 fps
Extreme Spread: 26.86
Standard Deviation: 9.89
Question for yall.
I see that there are basically two "Sharps" companys, Shiloh and C Sharps and I see that at one time they were the same.
I also see that some people swear by the Shiloh and others like the C Sharps.
Is there really any difference? Is one better than the other? Is one better quality than the other? Arent they the same rifle built to the same specs?
I honestly don't know, that's why I am asking. I also see some websites devoted to Shiloh and others devoted to C Sharps.
Is it just a Chevy vs. Ford thing. From what I've seen both of them make some absolutely beautiful rifles. Just looking at these pictures makes me want one.
I think initially the Shiloh devotees were saying that the 1875 Sharps that C Sharps were selling was never a "production" rifle. Now both companies offer the 1874 as well as other rifles. I think that both companies make excellent rifles. Several years ago we visited the Shiloh shop, but didn't visit the C Sharps shop...only a block or 2 away on the same street.

Thanks Concho! When the heat lets up maybe I can try some blackpowder loads again. I've got some 5 year old ammo laying around loaded up with the Jones bullet and some Swiss 1 1/2. I know they'll outshoot the smokeless!
Just on their website... and all 7 pages of this thread. I have a new goal....
Yes I think I have an addiction...
Good grief!! Obviously, you're not married. Whew...I thought I was looking at 16 different rifles but noticed it's 8 instead.

hot guns ... very nice there. the #3 is just plain Sharps in appearance. I prefer the pistol grip of the #1 or Montana but they are all so nice to include my plain Jane Hartford in 45-120. thanks for sharing your beauty.
