    H&R date of manufacture

What portion of the serial number dictates the date of manufacture

Any idea what the date of mfg the serial number A113XXX is?

The butt plate has hand inscribed dates (basically a receipt) on it from 1925.

That site shows a mfg date of 1940.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Hi,

I have one H&R, 28ga shotgun, that was built before 1940 and it doesn't have a serial # with a prefix letter. I would say that your receiver is a 1940, Single "A" prefix, and that the buttplate and maybe the stock aren't original. If you can take pics of your gun with as much detail as possible and post them on the GBO H&R Shotgun forum or better yet they have a H&R forum for older collectibles, I can't remember the exact name of the forum.
