Need help with my 40 cal Lee 175 gr TC

    I need some advise.

My finished reloads in 40 S&W are not chambering in my Glock barrel, Lone Wolf barrel and my case gauge.

Bullet is dropping into Glock barrel but stopping with the thickness of the rim extending beyond feed ramp.

Bullet will not chamber into the Lone Wolf barrel at all.

The boolits are coming out of my lube sizer a perfect 401.

Would going to a smaller sizer die of .400 be of much help?

I was planning on using the Lone Wolf barrel exclusively for my cast reloads and right now I'm at an impasse.

I'm thinking i might have to send the barrel back to Lone Wolf to have the chamber opened up a bit.

All of my brass has been run thru the Redding GRx die so there is no bulge.

Case flare is at bare minimum to seat boolit with shaving lead and I am using a Lee taper crimp die.

    Any help would be appreciated.

+1. check your COAL. I'm at 1.120" (wiht 0.401" dia) and they cycle in my M&P40. That same length will not fit in my Kahr PM40 chamber.

I use the same die and load for SW sd 40,Glock 23 with a storm lake barrel,XDM, SW M&P, and my Walther P99. no problems. Definatly sometjing odd going on. I use a case guage to check my pistol bullets to. it helps alot when things are not making sense. I would look at the COL like mentioned above for sure. I would also be sending that lone wolf barrel back.

I found I had to seat that bullet a bit deeper to fit a LW barrel in my G24

For the LW barrel in my G22 I had to use an OAL 1.110 and insure the crimp was .422 ~ .421. I sized to .401.

    Check your crimp.

    My c.o.l. is 1.125.
Adjusted length down to 1.115 Still no good on the Wolf barrel.

I do not have a ball mic to measure the case wall thickness but....looking at the brass
my RWS brass looks like it is thicker than my Speer.....the Speer will chamber all the way in
my Standard Glock barrel and partially in (case extending beyond feed ramp from extractor groove out)
    in my Wolf barrel.

Again, I'm wondering if ordering the .400 sizer die would fix the problem.
Will be contacting Lone Wolf today about how to go about correcting the problem with
    their barrel.

I must say this one has me stumped.

All Lone Wolf barrels are match graded; so they are tighter than the factory OEM barrels. Our barrels will fit ammunition within factory spec. If you are shooting reloads and need the chamber opened up you are welcome to send your barrel with 3-4 dummy rounds and our armory department will resize the chamber to fit your ammo for a $30 fee (includes return shipping). Address to send to is:

    Lone Wolf Distributors
    Attn: Armory Dept.
    57 Shepard Road
    Oldtown, ID 83822

Please include a printout of this email, your contact information, and please track the package to ensure it reaches us. Please allow up to 2-4 weeks for processing of all returned items to Lone Wolf Distributors.

    Thank you,

First check and see if a sized case will chamber, if it will you know your sizing die is fine. If it won't you may need a different sizing die.
If the case fits but won't with bullet seated you know its a bullet thing. You might want to try a lee factory crimp die, it has a carbide insert that will resize the case with the bullet seated or like you stated try a smaller bullet sizing die.

+1 for 308w.....first insure that your sized brass falls easily into the chamber of your LW barrel, if that is a problem fix that first. The issue for the 401-175-TC or the 401-145-SWC is that your stock LW barrel does not like much boolit bearing surface forward of the case mouth. An OAL of 1.110 (I did not get reliable function at 1.115) with a .422 crimp (which is a squeeze) did the trick with 401-175-TC for me.

Sized empty case drops into both barrels with no problem.

Try getting your taper crimp down to .421-.422 OD.

    Got it !!

I really had to adjust the taper crimp die down quite a bit.

The loads now fit in both barrels and cartridge gauge.

Thanks very much for all of the replys and advise.

That boo;it runs very well for me. I'd like to see and try a lighter version. Maybe 155-160 gr.

Nick, I use that boolit in my Glock 23 with both the OE and LW barrel. I size the boolits to .401. I use Starline brass and have used WW also, both with no fit problems and both with just the bare minimum of crimp on the taper only die (I say a pox on the CFCD). Is your brass case wall thicker than some others?

I agree, 401-175-TC shoots fine but I got a Lyman 401654 (155 gr.) and find it more accurate with perfect function and sized to .401 can load it to OAL 1.100 with a light crimp. Really like it with Promo 4.2 gr @ 1000 fps.

prs, apparently the crimp or should I say lack of one was my problem.
Haven't reloaded for pistol in quite a few years.
All of my dies are permanently setup on Dillon Loading Blocks and the 40 S&W
was my first new pistol caliber in a very long time.
Lots of cobwebs in the old brain.

    Thanks again for the advise.

    Thanks again
