Is anyone using the 1/2 ton press rather than the 1 ton from Harbor Freight? I see the leverage ratio is the same 20:1 so there would be no diff in effort? The only diff I can see is the clearance is an inch smaller on the 1/2 ton ?

I have the one-ton. Works well. Made a special cup to fit between the toes to catch the checks.
There was a discussion about 1/2 versus 1 ton. Most went with the one-ton because it's just BIGGER.

I use a small drill press with my FreeChex III and it works fine. If my small drill press works I'm sure a 1/2 ton arbor press would work as well.

Actually, all you need is two children. One to operate the strip of material, the other to drive the mallet.
