Don't really remember. I started helping my father load ammo in '64, I was seven years old.I remember he used unique, and 2400 for handguns.
He used 4895,3031,4064,4198 for the rifles.Back in those days we loaded to have something to shoot, more than to come up with an accurate load.I still have his old Colt Trooper .357 mag.I learn to shoot using that gun and .38 spl wadcutters.I remember sitting at the bench and helping meter powder in the cases. He had an old Herters C press.

Back in the '80's, Norma ammo for my Argentine Mauser was way too expensive, so I bought some 30-06 cases, Lyman dies, Speer 175gr .313 bullets, and IMR 4895, and got started with a Lee Loader. Slow, but, did the job. Still have the lyman dies. Used them recently. Times are different now, so are the prices. NO .313 bullets available. Gonna use cast.

Clear back in the early 70's/Lee loader in .38 special/recommended powder was Bullseye, 2.8 grains. I used it to load exactly five cartridges before I ran down and bought a used press. The rest, as they say, is history!

BL C2 to feed a Sako .222 had a barrel like a cheap fly rod but that thing was a whistlepig killer. Lee target loader to go with it circa 1972

Hard to recall back to 1969...probably H4895 or IMR 4064 in the first rifle, a 30-06.

A buddy got me started a few years back. He bought me a pound of Unique, imr4227, and 2400. He said that's enough to get you started. Ran out of the 4227 first loading mostly .44 mags for my handi rifle. Its been fun!

Bought some IMR 4064 for 30-06. It may have been H4895 too. Either way, it was one of those powders for the rifle.

Who knows that I first pulled the lever on as a young (5-ish) kid helping my dad reload 22 Savage rounds. My personal first was IMR 4350 in my Marlin XL7 30.06 my wife got me for graduation from college after my time in the Navy. Still have the empty can!

A pound of IMR 4227 and a pound of Unique were my first purchses. Pop had a whole RCBS Rockchucker kit stashed away that he never used. The Day after I bought my GP100, I picked up powder, primers, bullets, and invoked inheritance on the reloading gear.

Still have most of my first batch I loaded. Hornady 125 grain XTPs over a healthy charge of 4227. Pretty stout and hit like a freight train.

1 can of AL-5 and one can of Red Dot to load 12 gauge shotgun shells. A lee hand tool and some Alcan Feltan Bluestreak cushion wads and Nitro cards plus the new PGS (Plastic Gas Seal) and some quick sert plastic shot protector inserts, and of course, 100 Alcan 220 Maxfire Primers and 100 Remington 57's. Loaded up the old Federal paper hulls with one load each strictly according to Lee instructions and headed out to the sand pit with my buddy's Iver Johnson Champion 12 ga. Tied it to a tree and touched off each load with a long string. I was hooked and it got progressively sicker from there!

Now it's rifles and pistols and cast boolits and melting pots and moulds and sizers...I guess I need help but will probably wait on that. I'm really saving so much money reloading! It's gotten so bad that I handload also....
