    Aluminum beer bottles

Has anyone made gas checks from aluminum beer bottles? I have a 44 mag free chex 2 coming and was looking for some .017 aluminum so I cut one of those aluminum beer "bottles" open and my micrometer says it is 0.018. so the thickness is right and I live in a college town so those beer bottles are scattered all over town.

I had some checks of unknown origin that were .011 thick and they only crimped onto one mold that I used. all my other 44 molds need something thicker. Thanks though, I will save that link for 22 and 30 cal checks.

Early on in the alum check discussion 'Boerrancher' reported using, we success, Bud Lite bottles that were .016 in the wall.

Thanks Jeff, I have 2 different bottles, the bud, miller, coors, etc type bottles that are .015-.016 and a local winery that puts its delicious hard cider in aluminum bottles that have a wall thickness of .020, so between the 2 I have a decent supply and some thicknesses to play with.

Too bad Shiner doesn't come in those things. Now I'll have to hunt up a lower class of friends.

Agreed, like I said, being in a college town I can walk down the street and pick up plenty, since nothing I drink, except the Oliver hard cider/apple wine, comes in aluminum bottles

Pls. explain. Cans, bottles? Cans, I've never seen anything thicker than .004". Are you referring to kegs?

No, they are shaped like bottles and made of thick aluminum. I believe they were invented so drunk people couldn't throw glass bottles at sports games

I lead a sheltered life. I always thought Cans were either steel ( i am old) or aluminum and bottles were glass. Need to get out more. Perhaps go drinking with my sons and/or daughter.

I use the miller lite aluminum bottles, my father in law says that he will take one for the team and keep me stocked with check material

I don't see many of those aluminum bottles around here. I'll have to start watching the roadsides a little closer.

They don't sell the alum bottles in Ne. I went to a Safari Int convention, and brought back about 15 or so in my back pack (empty). TSA agent was sort of confused when I told him that they were to be used to make gas checks for cast boolits.

Maybe I travel in the wrong circles, but I've only seen 1 of the aluminum bottles. It was brought back as an empty from a camping trip out West.

I see Monster drink in cans and just saw some Mountain dew in cans last night. Are these ok too?

Cans are thin stuff. I wanna say four thousandths of an inch. The new aluminum bottles appear thicker.

Aluminum for sale signs .011aluminum vent pipe for vent hoods .015,hair spray bottles(aluminum).010.Look around for your supplies that don't cost much, they all make good gas checks. As soon as I shave will check the shaving cream container, about 1 more shave left in it.I find that most aluminum containers that hold pressure will be thicker.
