is it the lube or powder?

I'm gettin a lot of smoke with my .45 colt loads.
I'm using 9-10gr of unique with a rcds 45-270 clone.
Not real sure what the lube is but it may be 50/50 with some old black ideal mixed in.

Where do you think the smoke is comming from?

    Thanks

IMO Unique has a tendency to be a touch smoky. Add in unknown lube and you got a good smoker going.

Weather makes a difference too. Low wind and humid generally makes for more smoke.

switch to randyrat's TAC#1 lube and WSF powder and you should darn near eliminate smoke!

It is the 50/50 or the Alox that smokes worse than a burning rubber tire. I use Unique a lot and there can be some loads that have a small bit of smoke but very little.

I had loaded some bullets up that I was not sure if they were already lubed so i ran them through the sizer with TAC1. Turns out I did tumble lube them before i lubed them again with the TAC1 (checked the notes)...Boy did they smoke. I'm spoiled on low smoke lube. You don't have to suffer with all that smoke, just use TAC1.
