    458SOCOM Paper Patch Bullets.

Now that I am back in the U.P. I am getting ready to start swaging bullets for my 458SOCOM. Anyone been doing this? Thanks.

I have not tried it myself but I am glad this topic came up. I would think that the Lee C452-300-RF would be a good one to try first. It's 0.452" pistol bullet that could be easily patched up and sized to 0.459" or so. It also comes in a six-cavity mold. You can quickly make a bunch of them. Get a few samples to check for reliable feeding from the magazine. Good luck. Let us know how it works.

I think the .452" would be a good choice. I have the Corbin .450, .451 and .452 swage dies. All cup base, flat point design. One of them HAS to work. I will post as work progresses. I was probably premature in posting the question as I want to work up and regulate paper patch loads for my two 45/70 doubles first. Then go to the 458SOCOM. Lots of fun weeks ahead, regardless........

So much for that project. Sold the 458Socom before I ever fired it. Carl L.

Since we are on the subject of big bore AR's and paper patching what about the 50 Beowulf. I tried the 30 cal boolits, and didn't like how small they were, or how pesky it was to wrap them. Did about a hundred and put the wood block away.

Longer is better for wrapping. Bigger is better still. I've successfully wrapped 120gr 25cal boolits but I think of heavy for caliber 30cal as small bore for paper patching.
