Spent July 4th learning TurboCAD to design a couple of new benches for myself. Here's the idea.

I spent the last two days putting it together. I suffered a bit of sticker shock at the hardware store, but nothing's cheap. Amazingly, it only took two trips to the store. My woodworking skills are novice at best, but it is coming together better than I expected.

I've still got to make the inserts for the bench tops. I made one out of scrap just to do the alignment of all the pieces, but it will be replaced. It still needs sanding where I puttied over the screw holes in the bench top and then stain/polyurethane.

The drop deck is for my drill press. I do all of my brass trimming/chamfering/deburring on the drill press for less stress on my hands. This bench will be my brass prep station.

One negative I've found already is the trim piece on the front of the removable plate will have to be deleted for the Lee Classic Cast press. The bolt holes nearest the operator end up in the trim piece rather than through the plywood. The LNL AP, RC, and T7 all clear the trim piece just fine. Such is life.

    2013-12-06 Update:

I realized I never posted the final photos. I cleaned up the reloading benches the other day and took a couple photos, so here they are:

    The loading bench above completed.

    The other benches and storage.

Not much of a bench here, just big enough to hold four Lee presses and a RCBS lubesizer and a good boolit inspector.

    garym1a2,
That's an impressive use of a small footprint.

Was on sale for $140 -can't buy the wood for that price. Now holds 6 presses
That's one one side of the room.
Other side - 4' angled by 8' plywood bench with bottom shelves - always cluttered
    Regards
    John

How do you like the HF bench? It's hard to beat for the price.

Been thinking about a dedicated reloading bench and that might just be the ticket.

How do you like the Hornady Case Prep Center. I've been considering getting one but wasn't sure if its worth the price and just buy the Giraud. But I like the prep stations with the trimmer. What do you think?

It is probably overkill for most but if you are doing bulk case processing it does well. I like to pick a case up & when I lay it down everything is done. I don't like doing one procedure at a time to a case. The machine isn't cheap & it may not be the best but after several thousand 223 & various other cases I know it works for me.

An airplane work shop is a must......I mean we can't shoot guns all the time! Can we???

If I have been misinformed, someone please tell me.

Super nice shop David, I plan on starting mine in the fall. I will post some pics when I do.

I too have looked at the HF bench. I'm not sure the legs have enough lateral support to withstand our use. The one in the local store is a little shaky, plus there are large hole drilled in the top. I think it's currently on sale.

Items like the HF bench and Ikea furniture are designed for ease of shipping and cost to manufacture. That does not necessarily equate to structural sturdiness. If you put the HF bench at the corner of a wall and attached it to the wall studs on the side and back, it would be a lot sturdier.
