Wad punches

Does anyone know of a source for wad punches to punch out cardboard overpowder/overshot wads for shotshell reloading?

Take a look at ELORA wad punches.

I use a 17MM for 12 Ga. and a 14MM for 20 Ga. for over-shot wads. I use a stack of 6 paper plates and strike against the end grain of a 1 ft length of 4X4.

Probably not for over powder wads, but for wads used as spacers under slugs and overshot cards, there are some 12 piece sets on evilbay for $10-15 including shipping, 3/8-3/4. Not particularly well finished, but economical enough.

Hammer punch is not fun , I bought one from McMaster Carr to make overshot cards. Lots of hitting, make sure that the items used as a rest, what you are cutting on is solid. I was using saw horses, and a table top. With a wood cutting board as a work surface. Everything bounced around. Been looking for a punch set the would fit a arbor press without any luck, most of the custom stuff had been over 300 bucks. Fred Cornell, I like this.

Or you can grind your own from hole saws. Just remove the teeth and sharpen, the bevel is on the outside edge.

Greetings, Harbor Freight had a set of 5 or 6 for $ 7 or 8 , don't get ripped off as today you just can't trust any one.

The cheap Harbor Freight Hollow Punch sets only go up to 1/2" diameter.

As to using a hammer punch, yes you need something solid. As Ed said above, use the end grain of a piece of wood. Best for me is to use a round of pine firewood. For quick work in the shop, I use a piece of 2X6 clamped in a 30# vice. Makes for a pretty solid base. Regards, Woody

The cheap Harbor Freight Hollow Punch sets only go up to 1/2" diameter

They had the larger ones and they actually cost less than a dollar each. They are the same ones being sold on auction sites for twenty five bucks! for some odd reason HF is not listing them on their website now, but they can be found using google. I buy them locally for around or slightly above a buck each depending on the importers name on the package. You can also buy the ones that fit in a drill press or hand drill for a couple bucks each. Last time I checked HF they did have those in the larger sizes still on the site.

Just got one, the description at Buffalo Arms is incorrect. The die body is 1-1/4 in diameter not 1 inch. Cuts nicely, one can get about 144 dots out of a 8.5 x 11 sheet.
