Are you guys going to post the SL lube series formulae or do we need to hunt through hundreds of pages in order to view them?

I'd like to try something new and wonderful this summer and want to know if I have the required ingredients on hand.

Well I went out and tried my Castrol 2T and Ivory lube. First group in center, second group is high left and third is to the right. Notice that the first round in the second and third groups is high left. The first group was after five fouling shots in a clean barrel. I am going to load up some more and try it tomorrow with a completely cold and fouled.

What is the yardage you were shooting and what type of gun. I have noticed that there is not lube rings around boolit hole or splatter that's good. Did you take note if there is a lube star or signs of lube on the muzzle? Also how does that pattern compare with the other lubes you have been using?

Sorry about that. It is a Super Blackhawk in 44 that I re barreled with a Mcgowen barrel.The bullet is a Lyman 429244 that comes out at 270 grains ready to load. The yardage was 50 yds. and not much smoke and not much of a lube star either.

Disregarding the first shot it shoots right there with the Felix lube in this weather. 60'ish degrees.

When I was working in the paper pkg. plant we use a cardboard /paper mix,but our compition use a pkg. made from chicken feathers and paper. When synth. oil or gease got on the feather fiber suff it got slicker than snot. This stuff was extremely fine fibers. Adding them to a lube might give you the carrier compoud that would help hold lube in several temptures. Don't know just a thought thrown in.

Well, Sunday was a little better. After approximately 24 hrs the first shot flyer went away and didn't show back up through 30 rounds with no visible lead and a pretty shiny bore. Lube star was about the same looking, not really more than shooting the jacketed bullets. 54 degrees and a little humid.

That sounds outstanding. I have a question for you how hard was the lube you made and did it change hardness much over a period of time.

I have made 2 versions of the TnT 1st was the standard way of doing it, although I used a fine grater and made powder of the Ivory and was dry both were neaded with the oil till fully incorporated. Then put it to the heat.
Second batch Ivory mixed with the 2 cycle oil same as 1st, but after neading it I rolled it in cylinder form and wrapped it in clear plastic wrap. Waved at less than 1/2 power in steps of 4 min. 22 seconds don't know why the 22 seconds just pushed the 2 instead of 00. That was done about 5 or 6 times. There was some evaporation by noting expansion of plastic. As soon as the plastic wrap looked like it was about to burst I would jog the wave with on and off. Two cycles of 4:22 and no more signs expansion. I then let it cool to where I could handle it.

I then neaded it again put back to cylinder form and rewrapped. Back in Microwave again and gave it 3/4 power for 4:22 again. Lube didn't slump no evaporation as noted by plastic wrap not expanding. Now the lube seems just the slightly less hard as the high direct heat and no scorching the lube, it maintained the orange color.

Over a period of a week the lube firmed up a bit. It doesn't look like the waxy turd from direct heat.

I had placed a strip of plain white paper within the rolled up lube to see if there is any weeping. None found.

Now I really have not have the time to go and test it out. But even if I did I haven't been to the range in quite a few years. So I even if I were to make it to the range I would have to start over from square 1 shooting wise.
Might just find the time to dedicate a week or two for the cause. Dig through my poorly kept records it find what my 32 Win Sp love to shoot.

Now after reading The Quest I now understand better cold starts Lube perge ect. Were before I was clueless. Now I'm older and somewhat wiser, However my vision is(poor) at best.

Note: I have microwaved the lube till it started to liquefy from inside out. I shut off wave as I didn't want to scorch lube too much. It took quite some time to really start to turn liquid. The lube didn't change much, that didn't turn to liquid.

I made some with a semi synthetic that has been out in the weather for almost a week now and it got a almost crunchy shell on it, but it goes right back when you nead it back together. It has seen sun and rain the past few days. The only thing that I could tell that came off of it was some soapy residue when it got rained on. It will probably get the next test.

(yeah with alox) I figure the alox helps to lube and rust inhibit the guns. LOL

Mine hasn't changed at all, either. When you fully melt the stearate it locks up the oil and makes a stable solution same as wheel bearing grease.

Hey, while I'm STILL WAITING for it to get above 90° here, I'm ready to develop some bullseye target .38 Special loads and start loading 9mm lead...and I'm down to the last smidgeon of TAC#1 in the Star.

Could one of our esteemed lube masters send me a quarter-stick or so of SL-61.1 so I can add them to my testing in a few weeks? Figure I'll just finger-lube and push them through the Star.

Meanwhile, out in the shop, the Lyman has the old RCBS lube melted out and has been cleaned with a bit of carb cleaner, waiting for my decision on the next lube.

What should I do with the 1/3-stick worth of smelly RCBS lube I pulled out? Did I mention it stinks? I'm thinking of just tossing it.

I think we hit 52 for a high, it did make it to 63 this weekend.
I was still wearing a flanell shirt all day because the north wind was cold.

We were a little warmer today. Wen I turned at the junction to go to the mine it was around 59. I don't think it's going to jump up anytime soon.

Wow, you need to move up here. It was only 77 today I think that's the warmest temp we've had in nearly two years..). But then again, I was walking on the frozen lake this time last week and could still stand on a patch or two near shore yesterday...... Been a looong winter this spring......
