    Out at the range

    Went out to site in my AR because I put a new scope on it, turned out everyone wanted to go.
    We ended up taking three .357's (two pistol one lever), the AR 30, .445, and a few other pistols and lever actions and my 36 Navy.

    We just started my cousin on shooting so he spent most of his time with the .357 lever action



    We hadn't ever shot the navy before so I was pretty excited to shoot it. Well, we had a bit of a problem with the caps 10 wasnt quite enough and 11 was just a little to big, keeping them from falling off was a bit of a trick. Once we figured out the cap situation I still couldnt get the gun to fire, I wasnt pulling the trigger hard enough. Turns out this is the one time "jerking" the trigger actually turned out alright.

    Were you loading pellets or regular Black Powder? Regular BP is easier to ignite with a #10 cap.

    If you have been dry firing it you may have mushroomed the top of the nipple. This will cause the #10 to not fit and the #11 to not settle. If this is the case pull them out and file them round again and try #10's again.

    A day at the range is always good. It's been my experience with those Eye-talian bean shooters that a number 11 percussion cap will stay on just fine if you pinch it just a little before placing it on the nipple.

    If you were having trouble getting it to ignite, I suspect the nipples were full of oil. Fire a round of caps before loading it simply to dry it out.

    after coming home and pulling everything apart i'm sure we have a handle on the revolver now.
    the nipples were a little dirty, and the rest of the gun just needed some tuning up.
    the hammer fall was light causing some of the issues, and the light load wasn't helping any.
    so after a little light filing and some stoning here and there I think I have it running like a watch now.
    maybe not a rolex but a bit better than a timex.
    we will bump the load a bit more next time out too.
