    Cooking fat? Bullet lube?

Does anyone remember Grandma saving the bacon fat in the fridge? I do. She lived during WW2 and told me they used to save it to make ammunition with it. I always wondered about that. What did they use it for? I was thinking bullet lube but all the rounds in WW2 were jacketed. Was lube used on these rounds? Dumb question but I always wondered....

I thought I read about something like this in either ABC's to Reloading or they Lyman book. They said after awhile they can start to become rancid and stink. I think I asked a question about it in another site, as a newbie, and everyone seemed to think I was crazy.

Bring a snack when you shoot. I'm sure the smell will make you hungry for BLTs

I was reading in the Swiss Rifle forum about the lube they use over there - apparently animal fat based. They run a patch with some at the range after shooting while the barrel is hot, then when they get home, clean it, and finish again with a light coat of the lube...

Maybe I'll give it a try...

During WW2 fat was saved for the making of explosives (nitroglycerin).
