    Cimmaron highwall in 40-65

Just got a heck of a deal last weekend. Now what to shoot in this rifle?
Was about to order a rcbs mold. Can't decide on weight. Also thinking just shoot some 41 mag cast bullets and save lead. Only shooting 100 yards or less at paper. Don't have any sillywet to shoot.

    What would you do?

    Obligatory gun porn

The rcbs 300 csa bullet shoots pretty good at close to midrange, the 400 csa will shoot long range. The 350 csa doesn't do a bad job of splitting the difference, but if about all you're doing is shooting to 1-200 yds, the 300 will save you lead and recoil.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

I think the 41 Mag bullets are a good idea. Lyman makes a great 400 grain mold (Snover bullet) you might want to try if you want to sling some heavy lead after all. I am not familiar with the twist rates in those barrels, so you might want to check Greenhill before you get the mold. It casts a bullet that is 1.34 (+/-) inches long. I like AA5744, charges are light but the powder is more expensive.

Like the gun porn. Wish I could fall into such deals!

I have one like that, and it shoots pretty well with the .41 bullets I have tried in it. The RCBS cas boolits are good, too. I had a Mountain Molds RF made to drop about 240 grains, and I like it very much, too. Light charges of Unique work great with the .41s.

Jim I shoot a lot of 40/65,Try Meister 400gr CreedmoresThey are fair priced and shoot very well.Try 20gr of IMR 4759 and 1/4 sheet of TP above powder (Do Not pack paper,Just push in with a dowl) They should print about 1in at 100 for you. Also the 365gr bullet shoot well.MV should be about 1315 with this load. They are great rifles for the Buck.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.
I'm concerned pistol bullets don't have enough lube. May try a lube cookie under the bullet.
Have noticed something strange. The very end of the muzzle is smaller. Throat checks .515 bore checks .510 except for the last maybe .05 is smaller. Can feel with a patch and lead slug. It is not the crown. Though I can recrown and probably will.

    Sure that's not .415" and .410" respectively?

Yea, .410. Don't know what I was thinking.

Bought some 265 grain cast boolits. Starting with IMR 4227 22 grains. Would like to try the 20 grains of 4759 but using a lighter bullet. Will research more and end up at maybe 22-24 grains. Looking for a unique charge weight as well.

Somewhere around 9-10 grs of unique will work, but the best accuracy if you're going smokeless is probably coming from your 4759, or try some 4198, or 5744. 5744 works the best of the smokeless in my roller, but none of the smokeless works as well as the now discontinued Goex 3f express.
Long range rules, the rest drool.
