I think they were discussing registering on the forum and not registering the gun. And, if you're not a licensed manufacturer no serial number is required.

One of those homesmith sites had a BOLTED together lower from aluminum plates a while back - looked like a "Frankenstein" lower - but cool.

Yep, same problem here -- plus, I'm trying to figure how I can get barrel bits to build myself a couple derringers. Not to mention, how to fire a 7.62x54R from a short barrel pistol without serious injury...

Gosh a lot of the milsurp ammo puts out one heck of a fireball from a rifle barrel, so putting out the fire after firing a 7.62x54r pistol might be the thing you need to worry about .

Yep, they mentioned that several rifle-caliber short barrel pistols pretty much require welding gloves to fire -- lest you burn all the hair off your hands and/or set your shirt cuffs on fire. Still, I'd be much more concerned about recoil than back blast. A thirteen pound Mosin will give you a bruise that'll take a month to clear (says the voice of experience) if you get it seated wrong; imagine what a two pound "concealable" pistol will be like (even if you do give up 1500 feet per second in the shorter barrel).
