okay i have done the math.
for any of us near 50 the amount comes out to.
when you think you might have a little too much ingoted up in the garage, and you still have some in the backyard to melt down and clean.
i double checked the figures and that's how things shake out.

I don't think you could have enough. What a lot of people don't realise is that lead is a commodity just like gold and silver. It's not worth near as much, but it is still worth something. It can always be sold or traded off when times are hard. And just like gold and silver, it can put food on the table. It just takes more work to put food on the table with lead than it does with gold or silver.

Run, I don't have that much in ingots, maybe 500 pounds. I have a few heaping full 5 gallon buckets of scrap to be melted.
The backyard is clean of lead. I store the bulk of my range scrap in the berms at my clubs range. Pleae don't tell them, I don't want them to charge me for storage.

If you ever think you have to much, build a cannon and cast for it, mine shoots a 1 lb steel shell, would hate to think of the lead equivelent. Or better yet teach a kid or two to shoot, load and cast. Russ

You should have a pile that would last you 5 years. Never touch that pile.

Now, replace what you shoot. You always have 5 years worth of safety margin. Simple really.

I did the math and I have way more than I'll need for twenty more years.

But I'm still going to stockpile MORE !!

About 3,000 lbs. and counting. When I think that I have enough of one alloy, I just start looking for or mixing another alloy!

It is an addiction or maybe an obsession, like treasure hunting. I have sold some to keep the total weight down. I have one place where I can get three buckets of 100+ pounds at a time for, don't hate me, $5.00 a bucket. That has lead me to keep going this long. I can sort, smelt and ingotize it and feel like I'm making a good bit at $1.00 a pound. The pile is like money in the bank too, but it is always hard to sell some off.

I store a lot as cast, sized and lubed bullets, too. I don't mind throwing them away, horizontally and at high speed!

    (22000 * 7000) / 200 = 770,000 boolits (at 200 grains average) or 15,000 a year for a little over 51 years...

    Yeah, not a bad start.

Well after the last couple weeks of casting I am running very low on lead. I have 25 pounds in ingots, yes thats 25 pounds, 1/3 of a bucket of clip on's and 1/4 bucket of stick on's. I do have 125 pounds on order from a local guy but by the standards set here I might as well not have any. So lets do the math. Lets just say I have 200 pounds total, thats 200*7000=1400000 /200=7000 bullets worth. At 44 I figure I will be shooting at least 30 years so I can shoot 230 bullets a year. Guess I better find a couple more pounds of lead.
