Can you Identify this boolit for me?

measures roughly .036 and .072 long. Its a cast boolit with a gas check. The weight maxes out my lee scale and I dont have a digital to weigh it. Wife picked up a ziplock bag of 50 today at a garage sale for a buck.

That is from a Lyman 38cal mould, on the box it will say 38 CAL PT, GC 125 gr 358093, they stopped making them some years back but there are mould makers that do offer them.

Believe me when I say that they do a real good job of penetrating hard objects, within reason of course.

Your defeating the potential of those if used at 38spl velocities, best if it were in 357mag.

    It's a #358093. There's a .44 version as well (#429303). In addition to the Lyman versions, Hensley and Gibbs (H&G) made this style of bullet, with and without shoulders and in varying weights, available in most of the popular handgun calibers including 9mm, .38, .40, .41, .44, and .45. The H&G offerings were, respectively, #307, #272, #365 & #360, #291, #273 & #352, #938 & #312.

    Some info here.

Lyman made in both 38 and 44. An old timer, that goes back about 40 or more years.

When it comes time to actually use them try this method. Find a hot glue gun and put some in the seater die, immediately put in the boolit to form the hot glue matching the form of the boolit. I made mine work by getting a #3 center drill and modifying the seater punch so it matches perfectly. If you don't what's going to happen is the point is going to get deformed in short order.

Im gonna sound stupid here. But the glue is to form to the shape of the boolit so as not to damage the point when seating it? I was wondering last night how to do it without damaging the profile of the boolit. Only thought i had was to open the case enough to allow it to seat with little effort. But I was afraid to stress the case too much.

To me it isn't a stupid question it's just that your curious. And your right about the hot glue forming to the shape of the boolit. I own both moulds (38 and 44cal) so I made a nose punch that worked permanently by using the proper sized center drills.
