    Round Balls

Cast these with an old Lee mold that came with my recently purchased Liberty model Ruger old Army. After casting I tumbled them in my rotary tumbler with some #7 lead shot. I like the way they turned out.

Nice. I have an old Lee mold that drops balls at .432"-433" and I single load them over about 4 grains of W231. No recoil and fairly accurate @12 yds. I may try tumbling some to see how they come out...

Here they are rolled a little longer with a dash of graphite used to coat shot.

It's OK, I will smile with you but consider how lazy I am too.

What does the graphite do? Lubrication, I suppose, but does it help?

I know on shot the graphite lubes the shot to make it more fluid when shot. On this experiment my thought was to reduce friction while tumbling and I dig the result.

I RECENTLY have tried RB in my 44. They were double lubed with 45/45/10 and i had terrible leading.
As cast size was too large to fit in chambers, so i sized them before loading.

BP is a wonderful thing! Maybe I have shot a few million balls, boolits, etc, all pure lead without a speck of leading. In fact BP prefers pure lead.
I don't shoot it as much anymore because I hate cleaning. I have the Old Army in stainless so it is easier to clean. I remove the grips and stick the parts in the laundry tub. Wash and rinse with hot water, dry and lube.
I hunt deer with the Old Army, it is a super killer. The only problem is when the powder charge is increased, accuracy gets worse. Twist is just not right. I have to limit shots to about 20 yards but it will put a deer down right now.
I use 41 gr of Swiss FFFG for 1102 fps. Real close to my .45 Colt loads but it kills faster.
One thing that really helps is to use a good BPCR lube over the ball. It is not blown away like Crisco, etc.
Use Rem no. 10 caps. CCI has a decent cap too.
I made a special boolit mold for mine and also shoot some ACP boolits for fun, all are more accurate then the Lee Old Army boolit.
It is a lot of fun but I have not figured out a speed loader yet!

They look fine to me.I have done some number1 buckshot and just a small amount of graphite goes a long way.
Don't ask how I know,it was a mess from H@ll to clean up.Seems it kept making more and more.
