Just from reading other threads, and how much we have in common, I think you are my long lost brother, Gunfan.
Thank you, LUBEDUDE. I come from a long line of shooters. While father didn't care much for the 1911-A1, I think the design is pure JMB genius.

Most of JMB's designs were provided (inspired) by Almighty God Himself. The 10mm Auto is the modern progression of ballistic technology. I have five (5) handguns in 10mm Auto (four auto pistols and one revolver) chambered for the round. I understand completely.

I'm a loyal fan of JMB and his 1911. My old duty gun has a longer pedigree than I care to type but the Defender is mostly stock. They ain't purty, they're honest hard-working carry guns.

Ya, know it's not alway about the looks.

One of the lower lugs was cracked and it was wearing a set of Micro sights that were not installed well.

What I was buying was basically just a frame and slide and a mainspring housing.

Someone gave me $5 for the barrel at a gunshow!

The work they did on this pistol is just incredible, I shot some Wolf steel-cased hardball out of it several years ago and got groups inside 1-1/2" @ 25 yards.

Still waiting to try it out for serious with some real target ammo.

The only before shot that survived a computer crash:

This not my only 1911A1 but it is the one I have with the most character and a cool restoration.

Awesome restoration, definitely something to be proud off.

Job well done, thanks for sharing.

Colt Gov't manufactured in 1933. C-prefix s/n. Went to Argentina and marked "Policia Federal". Was refinished rather harshly prior to re-importation by JLD of Connecticut. I replaced the springs and it shoots extremely well and very accurate. I carried it CCW for quite a few years. I never felt undergunned with this ol' boy. My favorite holster: Bianchi Askins Avenger.

Owned and carried this m/1911A1 for near 30 years. Mfg by Colt in late 1943.

M15 .45acp shot cartridges. Pilot survival.

I have two. Neither all that nice and I can't post the pics without telling the stories.

The Charles Daly is my first. Purchased circa 1998 IIRC. It was the first auto pistol I made peace with. Other than my Ruger Mark II I was a strict revolver man from 1991 to then.

When I got it she would only feed ball. Back to KBI it went and it returned with a polished ramp and mild throat job. It would feed Golden Saber just fine but was picky about much else. But ball for pactice and Saber for carry suited me fine.

Right about the time I got into casting (2009) it developed a problem of only dropping the hammer to half-cock. I took it all the way apart and put it back together probably a hunded times trying to figure out why. I even fed it a Wolf spring kit to no avail.

Finally on vacation after tinkering with it in the hotel some I randomly googled gunsmith and found someone local. Told him my story and that they only thing I could think of was worn disconnect. I asked if he'd install another and make it go bang. He did (and made it a 5lb trigger in the process) for $75 but I didn't check it well enough when picking it up and only discovered hammer follow when I had it home.

Not worth the hassle of getting back with that smith I determined to fix it myself. After much more tinkering I finally figure out the disconnect was hitting the sear pin. I filed the bottom of the window a bit on the original disconnect and fixed the follow but added creep to the 5 pounds.

I've not done much else with it. I keep putting it on the back burner to other projects. I waffle back and forth between fixing the original internals as a learning experience and just installing a Cylinder and Slide drop-in kit. I also need to give a little attention to the throat so it'll feed the Lee TL452-230-TC.

My other I picked up last year. I wanted another 1911 in 2011 in honor of the anniversary. I almost prevented myself from getting it because I succumbed to other temptations through the year. Finally right before Christmas my wife told me I could buy this one a local fellow shooter was selling for $400.

I was thrilled to find it would feed the Lee trunc cone.

As long as the loaded round fits the chamber flush I find my PT1911 feeds everything I've tried to shoot from the Lee 200gr SWC to the Lee TC, of course the 200gr Miha penta's do very well.

I've got these two customs, plus a Rock Island Tactical that I used for Cowboy Action Wild Bunch shooting, it's up for sale as I don't shoot anymore.

Top one is a Colt Officers Model, with Novac rear sight, King's barrel bushing and full length guide rod set, mag well, Ed Brown grip safety, Wilson thumb safety and slide stop, and a couple of other items; put it together about 15 years ago.
Other one is a Para grip frame, Colt slide, Bomar Sights, Briley barrel and bushing, Ed Brown safeties and a host of other custom items. Put it together about 15 years ago also, but just now got around to having the grip frame NP3'd by Robar; haven't put it back together yet, just got the frame back yesterday.

There's something about an "old school" 1911. OTOH for most folks these days every 1911 is "old school".

I have a Colt 1911 made in 1917 that has had target sights added by previous owner,it has been shot so much that I had to replace the barrel because the cases were bulging. Also shown is a SAM Commander-E which is a low cost gun but very accurate.

Standard fare Remington R1. It's been dead nuts reliable for pushing 2k rounds.
