    smokey loads

I recently loaded up some of my cast .44's sitting on top of 6 grains of Green Dot and the lube I used was Lyman Orange Magic. Took them to the indoor range and Man! you could've sworn you were shooting black powder loads. I was wondering if I had done something wrong, The pistol I was using was a S&W model 24, 3" barrel in .44 Special. I've shot cast loads throught this before, but neever noted this much smoke. Maybe I just never noted this ?? Any Comments

How many lube grooves in the boolit? You can try lubing only one if you keep the load lighter.
Best indoor load for my 44 is a 240 grain SWC Lyman gas checked boolit with Carnuba Red, one groove lubed, over Clays.

    P.S. What's the baby thinking?

Some loads are mosquito chasers. You can try my TAC#1 it is very low smoke.

It's a Lyman Keith style mould, the numbers escape me. One big deep lube groove so I guess your idea isn't an option. I do have some new lube to try, hopefully that'll work better. If not I might look at the TAC#1 lube.

    Thanks guys for your thoughts

+1 on RandyRat's TAC#1. I shoot 45acp at an indoor range. I tried Alox, 45/45/10, BAC, and TAC#1. Significantly less smoke with TAC#1.

I have many loads that seem to produce no smoke outdoors that are real smoky indoors. I just learn to ignore the smoke.

Lube is the problem for sure.

Carnauba Red has given me the least smoke of all the lubes I've used. Haven't used Lyman Orange in many years. 50:50 Alox is not good for smoke ... and the smoke in a confined space is not good for you I have been told.
