    .451 v .452 in .45 XDM

I have been casting my own for a while now. I have been lube/sizing with a lyman 450 and 'Carnuba Red', with a .452 die and liking it. I recently started using a Lee TL boolit and LLA, with lee .452 die and liking that as well. I recently came across a 'San Diego' Star lube/sizer and it has a .451 die in it. I am no where near a "Pro" shooter. Will I notice any difference, in how they shoot. Also, will my gun notice a .001 difference in boolit size?

Possibly. With thick brass, the answer is YES, so do use a smaller boolit. Pay attention to seating pressure of the 452 boolit into the case to determine which case (brand;lot) is thicker. Mark them someway (paint case head). ... felix

Just get a 0.452" die. Your gun will likely shoot ok, but you may also get leading or tumbling. IMO, 0.452" is the sweet spot for most 45acp w/o slugging the bbl.

The only way to know for sure what your particular gun and components will like better is to load a box of each size and go shooting. Do some 25-yard, bagged accuracy tests, and some function testing and offhand shooting with one box, examine the bore condition carefully, then go back and do it all again the same with the other box.

I'm running a .452" in my XD Service and they shoot great. Lee Tumble Lube Truncated Cone 230gr over 5.8grs of Unique.

I use .452 in my XDm 5.25 45 ACP (and all other 45's) for 230 TC cast and 216 SWC cast. No leading.

Trying it is the real test. All else is "probably".

    Probably work, but might not.

Thanks to all of you. I had pretty much formed those same ideas, and i guess proof is in the pudding. Looks like a trip to the range is in order.

My XD45 service liked .452. Wouldn't feed anything larger reliably.

My XDm45 likes .452 and wont feed anything larger reliably.

I know it's only a sample of two XD 45s, but it does suggest a bit of uniformity.

My XD9 on the other hand, would feed .360" without issue.

So, I would suggest staying with .452"

Interestingly, all three will lead slightly with 45/45/10
