    40 S&W Gas Checks Needed

I'm gettin ready to start loading the 40 S&W. I want to go with the Lyman #401638 40 Caliber 175 Grain. What commercially available gas checks are there for the .401 diameter? I don't normally use gas checks in any of the other calibers that I load, but I want to do some competition shooting with the 40 cal.

Check with Blammer. He is a vendor here on Castboolits. Scroll down to the Group Buy login and set up a login or login. Visit DJ's store and a list of currently available gas checks will pop up and click on it. He sells them for a very, very reasonable price. The best price I've found anywhere. Presently I'm awaiting some .30 cal. gas checks. BC

It doesn't look like your mold is a GC design...might want to look into that more before you send out for the checks.

The 401638 is a bevel based bullet. It
IS NOT designed to accept a gas check.

Thanks Ben, being an utter noob myself I didn't want to write in definitives but I didn't want him spending money on checks he couldn't use.

Also, for a 175 gr 40 S&W I don't see any reason for a gas check, competition or not. If you have issues with leading, they should be fixed with proper fit of the boolit, good lube, and good loading practices. A gas check is just going to be extra cost, IMHO. I run 175 grain boolits flat out in my 10mm without any leading.

I don't use any gas checks for any of my .40 molds. Not sure I have even seen many molds in that size with gas checks.
