Question Friend of mine gave me 6.8 lbs of these. What do I have here?

I was going to melt them down for the lead, but figured I'd better ask here first just in case they are worth something.

They look to be T/C or Lyman Maxi- Balls for muzzle loaders. What is the diameter? Need to wait for the whole pic to download. By the tape they are .50 cal.

50 Cal. black powder projectiles more than likely soft lead --- mix with FW and mix should be fine

Maxi balls, probably .50 or .54 caliber. They could be any of several different weights,320 gr, 370gr, 420gr, etc. I'd post them on the Swap and Sell page before I melted them.
I just checked the price on a box of 20 .50 caliber ones I bought last year from a local gun shop- 14.00 dollars.

Put them over 70-90 gr of Pyrodex RS in a TC hawken, and you have a lot of dead critters. Set them over the Holy Black and your gun will be even happier.

I have a Lyman mold that casts those in 50cal. Excellent bullets. Very accurate. You see them in my avatar. Please note the one in my avatar was one of the first ones I cast. They look a lot better now.

A picture of a tape does not a scientific measurement make.

It is a Maxi-Ball and my straight edge held up to the screen shows a little over 1/2 inch. My call is .540.

I was always taught to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder to find any!

Μολὼν λαβέ; approximate Classical Greek pronunciation [molɔ̀ːn labé], Modern Greek [moˈlon laˈve]), meaning "Come and take them" is a classical expression of defiance reportedly by King Leonidas in response to the Persian army's demand that the Spartans surrender their weapons at the Battle of Thermopylae.

Thanks for the info gents. I put my calipers to them and they do appear to be 54 caliber flavor.

I listed them here at $1/lb + shipping.
