    "Texas" Reloading scale

I was in a local gun shop today and bought an old Texas brand powder scale. It's complete except for the pan.

So here comes my long shot question....

Would any of you 'seasoned' reloaders have a photo of the Texas scale so I can see how the pan attached? I'd like to fit a pan as close to original as I can.

    Thanks!
    Mike

    Mike,
This is my oil-dampened "Texan" scale -- I didn't like its black paint. It is the same scale as the old Hornady M-7, but they no longer have any replacement parts.

That's close to what I have. Now I see how the darned pan hangs. I'll be able to easily add somebody else's pan. the seems to be -much- better than the cheapo Lee that came with my press.

Hey Mike, How are you doing?

The scale you bought will be easier to operate than the Lee thats a given in my opinion. I recently had to shape a hanger for an Ohaus scale and found that coat hangers were too stiff for my liking. I ended up using part of the aluminum pieces of a 98 cent "egg whiper" from walmart. Really flexible but with enough rigidity to hold the pan,

    regards,

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the idea. I was delighted to find this scale and an old Speer loading manual at Gunmasters. Got both for less than $20 including tax!

I'm going to use the Lee pan for now. I'll order a Lyman hanger and pan on my next Midway USA order.

This old scale is without question orders of magnitude better than the little Lee scale I have.

Hit me up privately if you wanna do some shooting some afternoon.

I'd suggest contacting Hornady and asking them if they have a pan.

Was in a hurry and didn't read all of post #2.

Have an old Texan scale myself. The Lee pan works quite well with it. It is my back up now since I got a nice RCBS. But every once in a while, I revert back to it.
If it doesn't shoot an ounce of lead, its a wimp load.

They were made by Webster. The habger wire is #6 aluminum wire. I got a huge chuck of the stuff when working on a powerline project. It was scrap to them.
Adding or deleting weight to the nuts on the end of the beam will allow the scale to zero with about any pan and hanger combination.

Texan also offer a curious attachment that lets you hold a funnel over the scale.

    Ken,

Yep, that is the scale I just bought. But without the funky funnel...

    Thanks for the photo.
