Question Alox on non TL bullets?

    Hi,

Any experiences? Will it work on a non TL bullet?
    Thanks,
    C.

PS. talking about .45 ACP and .45 Colt in the 800 fps range.

Are you speaking of the Lee liquid Alox?
If so, then yes, it can be used on any bullet design.

I TL boolits up to 2000fps (gas checked on the rifles). I recently purchased my first TL mold but I TL all my boolits that will be shot under 2000fps.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Thanks for the input. New to bullet casting. Want a 200 gr. bullet the will feed my 1911 and my Uberti '73 rifle (Wild Bunch shooter).

I have a Lee 200 gr. TL that works in the pistol, but will not chamber in the levergun.

Found a Lee 200 RNFP that works in both, but it is not a TL design. Will give it a try.

Incidentally, casting bullets is actually fun or am I weird?

    Cordially,
    C.

LOL!!! In my estimation, it is a hobby in and of itself. Bordering on a sickness. I love it!

I shoot alot of conventional lube groove RNFP's out of my .38 Special revolvers with +P charges. I tumble lube with liquid alox and size them to .358 with the Lee sizer. I find they actually shoot cleaner and are more accurate than those sized and lubed in the conventional way. I once bought a bunch of 9mm boolits for cheap because they had been stored in the heat and the lube melted off them. I scraped off the remaining lube, rolled 'em in liquid alox, and they shoot great.
    Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.

Yes, you can tl non tl cast designs. I've used them in 38 sp, 357 mag, 44 mag, 45 acp and 480 ruger.

+1 ^. I tumble lube my TL design 9mm and non-tumble design for .45 Colt and .45 ACP. Great way to apply Recluse 45/45/10 lube. I don't even size the 9mm. Just lube 'em and shoot 'em. BC

Lee Liquid Alox is an excellent lube
    (although many will disagree)

You can see actual results of 67 loads with 17 bullets including micro groove and conventional groove here:

The failures are highlighted in red so you can find them easier.

It's a fine lube in certain applications.

I haven't run a .452 boolit through my lubesizers in a long, long time--I tumble-lube them. This includes boolits for .45ACP as well as 45 Colt.

I have shot lots of 45 ACP loads about the same velocity using Lyman's 452460, RCBS' 45-201-SWC and Lee's 452-200-RNFP using Recluse's 45/45/10 with good results.
    Good luck, jmsj

Yes, you are weird, as are the rest of us on this site. I could get philosophical, but I think I'll just go get a glass of milk to come down from this cast-boolit high...

About the only boolits I DON'T use alox on is the big 500 and 540 grainers I shoot in my Gibbs rifle.

This really should be covered in a stickie. The T/L on non-T/L bullets (standard lube groove) and standard lube on T/L bullets comes up quite often...

I TL conventional lube groove boolits all the time. Mid range velocities and handguns only.
Never tried it with rifle boolits.
