    Round Ball Lube?

Might be a silly question, might not. I cast some round balls recently just for giggles, had all those shiny ingots from stick-on ww's and couldn't resist ordering moulds and casting a few shiny little balls. I shoot .54's in a Hawken with a lubed patch but I shoot the .45's in a C&B revolver over a lubed felt patch. I've not noticed any leading but can't help but wonder if I should TL the .45's.

I use straight Bear Grease on patches for round balls.
I blend in Beeswax with Bear grease for conical.

I tried TL 45's in my ROA and it created more problems than it solved.

Seems if I want to lube sumthin' I better go cast boolits and leave those shiny balls alone.

Ive always just used the lubed patches on my ROA. Never thought to lube the round balls. Never used just the soft WW for casting tho. Always tossed em in with the rest.

No, no mineral oils for BP.
I never use a wad under balls but I use a BPCR lube over them. It hangs on better then stuff like Crisco that blows away. I use Mathews lube.
I want all the powder I can get for deer under the ball. Might not be as accurate and cuts distance, but they sure thump deer. I get 1102 fps with 41 gr of Swiss FFFG from my ROA.

I tumble lube with JPW round balls for use in my cartridge guns including shotguns. Not so much for lubricant but because it protects them from oxidizing (the white powder that develops on bare lead in storage).

I always thought the grease sealing the chambers on a C&B revolver was enough lube. Just getting into a flintlock muzzle loader. Was hoping to see something about making the pre-lubed patches here.
I'm thinking a patch soaked in my favorite BPC lube will work when melted.

rooster jacket , LLA , JPW , reclue's recipe ... all will protect the ball from oxidation as well as offer some lube properties , for cap n ball pistolas the wad is just too easy
you can thin down any black powder lube with a vegetable oil to make patch lube or leave/make it firmer for above the ball grease seal ( and yeah that seal can be important - more so than the lube ) for but of course there's ummm ready mades for both

I've used the Lee liquid stuff on round balls in the .45 LC for gallery loads and plinking just for fun and it works great with no leading at low speeds.

FWIW, I cast and shot some round balls (never heard of a square or triangle ball though!) in my .44 Magnums. Not black powder, but round ball just the same. I used 45-45-10 (or thereabouts). I rolled my balls around in the lube (Now that's a heck of a thought!) and set them on alum. foil to dry. Seated them just passed center, with a light roll crimp over a light load of W231. A real hoot to shoot and accurate to 30 ft....
