    45LC loads

I have a friendly drywall specialist going to finish my basement project that I started. (No time and elbow is getting some issues...)

We started talking about reloading and he was inquiring to me about cast boolits. he has never shot them in his 45LC. I was thinking of gifting him some cast bullets.

I already have a Lee 6 cav 452-200-RF. Would this suffice to start with? (Or maybe the 452-230-TC?)

I have no ideas on 45LC, but see it is in the range when looking at commercial caster's catalogs (sized to .452").

I was thinkning of the Lee 452-255-RF, but would have to do some trading to get one, and revamp my Star die to size/lube...

The Lee 452-200-RF is an excellent lighter weight cast bullet for the 45 Colt and is a favorite with the cowboy action shooters. I use it also. I size mine at .454 (as cast diameter), lube with Javelina or BAC and load them over 5.6 gr Bullseye for a low end "cowboy" load and 7.5 gr Bullseye as my standard load which runs 900+ fps depending on barrel length. I shoot them in my Uberti SAA's, M73 rifle and Rossi M92 rifle with excellent accuracy.

I shoot that same bullet for sass. I use 5 grains of clays. I run it through two ruger vacqueros and a marlin lever gun.

Might want to give him a sample bullet to drop through cylinder. If the chambers are way too large, you may well have a problem with leading. Many .45 Colt guns need .454 dia bullets. Don't load up several hundred without first trying a small sampling.

I find that Lee .452 45 Clot type moulds drop real close to .454 with most alloy anyway.

Mine drop at 452 or slightly above and I shot them unsized with LLA and 5 gr of clays in my new Vaq. Very pleasent load to shoot but still pretty potent! BHN 8 or 9

I don't think any of my 45colts haev ever seen anything BUT lead bullets. The 200grRNFP is a great Cowboy action bullet. For heavier loads, the 255gr Lee is a good bullet. My fav is the RCBS 270grSAA. It casts @ 285gr from 25-1 alloy, very accurate sized to 0.452" in my Ruger.

The Lee 6 cav 452-200-RF should work just fine. Fit wil be the key. Try some samples as already suggested.

I shoot both the Lee 452-200-RF and the 452-255-RF in my Ruger 45 colt and in my 1911's.
They both cast great and shoot well. The 255 grainer seems to shoot a little better in both types of guns.
As others have stated fit will be key.
    Good luck, jmsj

I plan on only giving him boolits as he is already a reloader. (Plus, I only reload for myself and close family members.)

I will do some of the 452-200-RF's sized to .452" since that is a Star die I already have. I'll give him a heads up on leading. If they work, he can use them and get more. If not, he can pass them on or return them to melt down.

Yep, sizing for his gun will be the key.......
