    I don't believe a word of it.

    But.

    I have five web sites.

If any of those major sites is not available when I get up Wednesday, I will take mine down too.

Seems counterproductive to me though. I mean, the Chinese have to work their asses off to get past government internet censors but here in the US unkle sugar threatens censorship and we shut it down voluntarily? ***?

Shutting down one's internet site in protest to a suposed ban would be like protesting the high price of gasoline by draining the gas tank of your car all over the ground and then having to recoup the money to buy more gasoline out of your own pocket. It's pointless. I think this might be just another rumor spread by unwitting folks thinking they are accomplishing something from their desks. In the mean time I plan on having lunch that day with Elvis and Ken Lay and I'll ask them what they think about this problem.

Thanks Robert! I read the Mediterranean Caper as a kid, then Raise the Titanic and forgot about him till recently. Been on the hunt for his books for about a month now. Found a few at the salvation army for 50 cents apiece. Currently working my way through Sahara. Have finished Dragon and Shockwave.

After thinking out it, maybe folks should have a hunger strike instead! Think of the impact that could have.

I never did get hunger strikes and sit-ins, shutting down your own website ranks right up there with them.

I've always been an advocate of "enough rope". In this case, if some site is bent on self mutilation by cutting off their revenue stream then go for it. Frankly, although there are web sites I'd miss, I can live without the whole thing. I did so for more than half a century and I can do it again. I'd actually have to do more what I like most and do less talking about them. Which is not a bad thing in my book.

Makes a person wonder what they did with their time 15 yrs ago. I was just telling my wife last week, it's funny how the internet has intergrated into peoples lives so much, they just cant live without it. Internet servers go down like Verizons 4G towers did a few weeks ago, people get real irrate......don't ask how I know that one. I went into changing providers threat mode real fast

From what i've heard on the internet, When Dec 21st arrives, big brother will have a blackout on all internet activities in the world. they have a special weapon they will be "turning on" and using on that day.......

All I can say about this top secret secret is I got plenty of aluminum foil. Besides my foil hat, I heard this top secret secret weapon they will be using can pick your thoughts up thru the ground too. So I will be making foil socks also.
Plus I started lining my floors and ceilings with foil.
I don't think they can hear your thoughts thru the walls, just the floor and ceiling, but if I hear any rumors they can I will post to let everyone know so they can be prepared.

+1 What do others care if the company shuts down the website. Google is not controlling the world and if its just 2.5 min its a moot point.

    You might be surprised.

Here are just a small list of services that Google is involved in for hundreds of thousands or millions of users:

email, for huge numbers of businesses, not to mention all the individual gmail users. My personal domain is hosted on google apps.

Navigation, not just for those nifty maps on web pages. Lots of people depend on google to give them directions. Android phones for instance.

Voice calls for those that have google voice. I don't use it for my primary, but my lov-guns number is used for most of my classified adds.

Docs, website hosting, chat, patents....The list is very long.

You probably don't realize how much your life is impacted by them. Google uses a very open architecture, meaning many things you do use that you don't perceive as internet related could be unavailable/diminished capacity.
