    melted my first zinc today did it on a turkey frier burner threw some old candle wax on top to keep it hot, just barely melted , poured it into 2 -5 lb ingots will take pics, and mark them well tomorrow ...im gonna try to sell them ... coated my casting ingot molds in aluminum hi temp paint (barbecue) to not contaminate , them came out easy...

    Personally, I'm quite intrigued by the possibility of casting light weight, high sectional density boolits out of zinc. It's on the totrymaybesomeday list.

    yes i would cast to the fmj specs if i was casting zinckies ,. example 308 diameter .
    not 309-311 for 30-06 rifle .or high pressures will be present.

    Smile Zink Boolits

    Many years ago I was reading one of the gun magazines about using zink boolits. First off the author was not clear on how he cut the sprue off the bullet. The bullets were not lubricated IIRC, or may have been sprayed with a teflon lube. They were able to get some spectacular velocities and impact craters in ductseal.

    The caliber was either 9mm or .357 Mag. The only reason I remember it was the pictures of the block of ductseal that was twisted apart like salt water taffy. And this was from a solid slug and not a hollow point.
    Listen! Do you hear it. The roar of cannons, the screams of the dying! Ahh! Music to my ears!

    Seems like late 70's or early 80's G&A (I'm leaning towards 80's).

    i remember in guns and ammo in the late 90,s early 2000,s an article with an aluminum bullet. hyper- velocity , so fast it would penetrate bp vests , but lost their zip fast due to light weight , it was in a 38/ or 357 magnum if i remember correctly

    What are the weights of those ingots? Zn vs COWW? Were they 5 lb zinc ingots or from molds that give 5 lb lead ingots?

    i got a coww ingot that visually looked the same size as the large zinc ingot weighed them both
    coww= 5.06.7 lbs ./oz./1tenth oz .
    zinc = 3.07.2 lbs ,/oz./1tenth oz
    so quite a bit lighter, and much harder ...
