So what is it good for? Do I mix it with pure lead to get a mixture hard enough for rifle bullets? I want to cast some boolits for a 50 beowulf. Any suggestions?

It's harder than linotype, so yes, it'll work neat for rifle boolets (note the spelling when we cast our own). Do a little search for the LASC link—it will give proportions.

If you have any family members interested in letterpress printing, DON'T TELL THEM ABOUT THE SCORE!!!!!! (Ask me how I know this)

Monotype should be 9% tin and 19% antimony.
    Nice score.

As far as mixing goes, here are a couple of ideas.
    10 lbs pure + 1 lb monotype = alloy with 0.8% tin, 1.7% antimony
    8 lbs pure + 1 lb monotype = alloy with 1.0% tin, 2.1% antimony
    6 lbs pure + 1 lb monotype = alloy with 1.3% tin, 2.7% antimony
    4 lbs pure + 1 lb monotype = alloy with 1.8% tin, 3.8% antimony
    3.5 lbs pure + 1 lb monotype = alloy with 2.0% tin, 4.2% antimony
    3 lbs pure + 1 lb monotype = alloy with 2.2% tin, 4.7% antimony
    2.5 lbs pure + 1 lb monotype = alloy with 2.5% tin, 5.4% antimony
    2 lbs pure + 1 lb monotype = alloy with 3.0% tin, 6.3% antimony

One of those should give you what you need.

monotype is much harder than you NEED for rifle bullets. You should mix it with pure and a bit of tin to get a more malleable alloy. I cast some mono bullets for the 30 and 45 caliber rifles I own. They were VERY hard to size in my lubrisizer and I broke the handle after a few dozen. I wound up using about 3 to one WW/mono for hunting. http://www.lasc.us/CastBulletNotes.htm

What you have could be monotype, foundry type, or a mixture of both. Being able to differentiate between the two is difficult. There is a good thread that was posted back on May 27, 2011 entitled "Mono vs Linotype." It gives some information on how to tell the difference between monotype and foundry type, and has a link to a page that provides various type metal compositions (sorry, I don't know how to post a link).
