    How Hard is Lead Shot?

A friend gave me about 50 lbs of shot reclaimed from a trap range.

Is shot hard enough to cast into bullets or would I have to alloy it with a hardener?

    If so. . . . .what should I use?

I use quite a bit of reclaimed shot. Assuming a mix of chilled shot and magnum shot, antimony is probably 3 to 4%. Add a bit of tin, and treat it like wheelweights. Alloy from shot also heat treats nicely. I just water quench straight from the mould.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. . .I will melt the shot down and cast as is. I load mostly 30 caliber bullets at 1600 to 1800FPS which should work just fine.
