    Oncology mold lead

Anyone know what is's make up? I melted some and it is harder than my 4H pencil. Molds are made in the shape of a tumor to protect healthy tissue from radiation treatment FWIW. I'm new to this bullet casting and am not amazed at how much I am learning here. How long should lead cure before hardness testing? Thanks to all of you. Ken

That stuff is like Cerrosafe. They melt it in a coffee pot- if I remember right it's melting temp is about 185 F. Probably wouldn't make a very good boolit.

I mixed some with pure lead to harden it. I'll be curious what a 230 gr bullet weighs out of the mold. Thanks, Ken

If you are not absolutely sure what it is, proceed with caution. Some low melt alloys used in oncology contain cadmium. This would be potentially dangerous to cast bullets with, cadmium puts off toxic fumes at high temps. Many oncology departments have switched to a cad free alloy which melts at a slightly higher temperature and has a large percentage of bismuth.
