    Exclamation 7.62x54 Mosin Nagant

I was at the local Pawn Shop today and saw
that they have about a dozen 7.62x54 Mosin Nagant
rifles that look as if they have never been issued
    For the sum of $99.00.

Would this be a good buy?

In that condition, yes. If you have a C&R FFL you can order them for as low as $69 each, but by the time you pay shipping and a hand select fee, its basically a wash, and at a local shop you get to pick out your favorite. Get one, especially if you don't already have a Mosin.

I also say yes. Since you are here you probably cast & reload, so you have a good headstart. Fun shooting gun using moderate power loads. Mine seem quite tolerate in achieving good loads.

Bore condition is a big deal with these rifles. Make sure that the rifling at the muzzle isn't worn away by a cleaning rod. Some of the pre WWII rifles will have bores that look as good as a well cared for 98K. I'd try for one of those if they are available.

    Hope this helps,
    -Matt

If you see a nice one for that kind of money, grab it. Aside from being a little heavy, there is nothing wrong with those guns. I think that they are one of the best deals on the market these days.

Look for pitted bores & counter bored muzzles though. A lot of those things saw heavy use & those two items don't clean up as well as other parts of the guns do.

AND-they are fun, good cast shooters if you have a decent bbl, and are cheap to load for.

These can be picked up for that price at several chains like Big 5 and Gander Mountain.

Recently snagged 3 for $249! Arsenal Refinishes. Great bore. Shot one yesterday. Shoots way high - as they all seem to do.
