442 s&w ?

Recently picked up a 442 for ccw.
Thought the moon clips would be good for that, and still do.
Not so good for practice though.
Since this round headspaces off the edge of the cylinder and not really the moon clip,
will it be OK to shoot without clips?
After performing an autopsy on a spent round, it appears that the solid base will stick into the chamber .075.
I'm not seeing a problem here, just don't know though.
What say ye o wise ones.

You sure it's a model 442? I have two and carry one every day. They are .38 Special, as are all the others I've seen. No moon clips.

I have heard the 9mm model 940 can be a little "funny", with fired cartridges sticking in the chambers. I've never owned one, but I've heard that from different owners at different times.

It's a 442 airweight in .38 special +P.
The owner of the gun shop says no to shooting without clips.
I just can't see why not.
Seems like it would have good purchase in the chamber.

I did an extensive search and came up with all kind of .45 acp stuff but no .38.

I might call S&W on Monday.

maybe the coffee hasn't kicked in yet, but here goes
moon clips make a rimless cartridge like a 45ACP revolver friendly for firearms that are designed to use them.
the 38 Special is already rimmed. if you can find moon clips that will fit and put them on a 38 you will not be able to close the cylinder on your 442

If you have a 442 converted to use moon clips, it may depend on who did the conversion. Clark here-

Says that you can load it with or without the moon clip, but that is how they do it. It may well depend on who did the conversion, but I would bet that it would be OK.

I'm sorry that you guys evidently think that I'm some kind of nut case or dumb kid or whatever.
I'm non of the above.
Google S&W ,Click on revolvers, scroll down about 7 ...that's what I'm talking about.
Comes with 3 clips, they fit, it does close,it does shoot!!!!

According to all I have read, if you have the 442 pro that is cut for moon clips, then you can shoot it without needing the clips. Loaded singly or with a speed loader, or using moon clips makes it pretty versatile. You can keep a moon clip on you and an extra cylinder full in a speed strip just in case or if you don't want to carry that extra moon clip.

Yeah, the moon clip cut .38 Special Airweights are a pretty new thing. I have a 642 Pro which is also cut for the clips. I shoot it all the time without the clips with no issues. The only real issue with the clips is that some brass works with them and other brass does not. Starline seems to be the best choice.
