Good mould for 35 Whelen?

I picked up a Ruger 77 SS rifle in 35 Whelen this summer. Eventually I want to get one good all-around mould for it. I'm brand new to casting.

The following is for sale right now (maybe it's one of you guys!):

(1) Do I need to slug my throat/barrel first to know if this is a good size? (I have time).

(2) Would this boolit be suitable for hunting out to 200 to 250 yards, or does it need to be more pointy?

You need to measure before you buy.
I used a Lyman 210 Gr. mold with limited sucess. I had trouble with the primer blast setting the sholder back. I was using rifle primers, pistol primers may help this problem, but the Whelen doesn't have much shoulder.

I am having great luck with the RD-190 .35 in all three of my 35 Whelens, shoots great and is my go to deerhunting boolit these days.

I found the RCBS 35-200 fn to shoot well at my limited 100 rard range. I plan to work with the Lyman 358318 - 250gr and 358009 - 282 gr. next.
Rifle is a Mauser with an Adams-Bennett barrel from Midway.

Slugging your throat and barrel is never a bad thing. then you know.

from what I have read, and the hunting I have done (with Jboo's) the round nose makes little difference in trajectory out to 300 yds.

and at Boolit velocity, I suspect a RN would be better than pointy, and a flat nose better than Round nose, for hunting.

I have had great success with 245 to 260 gr. boolits in my 1 in 14" twist .35 Whelen out to 300 hundred yards, only target shooting though, I don't hunt.
Have to think a 250 gr. boolit will get a deers attention at 300 yards.

I doubt you could find a better bullet for a .35 bore. It will be good for target and hunting.

I have the same mold (RCBS, that is) and the same brand barrel, although mine is a Savage replacement that is mounted on a Marlin XL-7. I had to get a machine shop to turn 0.015 off the breech face to get it to headspace...cost me all of $5!

I'm hoping to finally get it to the range next week to try it out.

Since velocity is limited with most cast, raise the grain wieght to increase BC
I use the Lyman 358009 bullet in my 35-06 and really like it
I use a Hornady crimp on gas check and Javilina lube and size to .358

The only problem I see with that mold is that your Ruger may not feed that FN design..
Sadly my short actioned Ruger in .358 Win. will only feed RN boolits..
Even the nose on my RCBS 200gr. catches the breech face on my barrel..

I achived MOA with Sierra 225 Gr. J-word then I gave the rifle to my son. I have had great success with the boolit in .357 Max..

my ruger 358 feeds the saeco 250 grainer perfectly from the magazine and shoots it very good.
it will hold an inch quite easily at 100 yds with 48.5 grs rl-19.[5 shots]
the recoil is pretty stout though.
i have sent these to a couple of guy's that have had good success in their 35 whelens also.
iirc, blammer was able to get right at or just over an inch with a pretty fast load in his whelen
with the ones i sent him.
he sent me a pic of the groups he shot and they looked pretty uniform [like triangles]

I don't have the saeco mold but looking at pictures of the boolit it throws, IIRC, it looks like a larger/heavier version of the RCBS 200gr.
I can guarantee you that a boolit from the LBT mold that the OP linked won't feed in my Ruger .358..
After looking at the mold do you think it would feed in yours?

The only boolit I have that will feed smoothly without scaring the boolit nose is the 358318..
If the feed rails where relieved in such a way as to release the case sooner then I think it would feed larger meplat boolits..
